Çevremizde hiçbir pencere olmadığından sabah uyanmak birazsorun oldu. Özge ve Görkem uyanmış bizi bekliyordu. Kahvaltı olarak, trendeyeriz diye aldığımız Monaco bisküviler ve Görkem’in taa ilk geldiğimizdeyanında getirdiği Çay Keyfini yedik. Çantaları başıboş bırakmakistemediğimizden özenle bir köşeye yerleştirdik, hepsini bağladık vefotoğrafını çektik ki geldiğimizde kontrol edebilelim.

Çıkıp ilk durağımız olan Safdarjung’s Tomb’a gittik. Genişbahçelere ve bir sürü sincaba ev sahipliği yapan yerin kapısında tüm fotoğrafmakineleri için 25Rs (0.88TL) isteniyordu. Hatta kapıdaki adam çıktıktan sonragelip fotoğraf makinelerimize bakmak istediğini söyledi. Ancak çıkışta paramara vermedik, yok bir de fotoğraf çekmek için para mı vericez? Çıkıştasıcaktan bunalmış insanlar olarak dondurmacıya saldırdık. Açelya uzun uzundüşünüp en güzel görünen korneti seçti, ancak dondurmayı açtığında yaşadığıhüsran, Hindistan seyahatimizde önemli bir yer taşımaktadır.

Delhi’deki Red Fort’u ziyaret etmek için metroya bindik veRed Fort durağında indik. Gene beyaz aptal turist olarak düşünüp, metrodançıktığımız anda Red Fort’u göreceğimizi düşünüyorduk ki çıktığımız yer, hayatkadınlarının (ve erkeklerinin) sıklıkta olduğu, inanılmaz kalabalık olan biryere çıktık. İnsanlara sora sora Red Fort’un yerini öğrendik. Aslında çok uzakdeğildi ama kalabalık yüzünden hareket kabiliyetimiz çok düşüktü.

Red Fort’un önüne geldiğimizde havanın 40-42 derece civarıolmasından ötürü eriyen ziftleri görmeyen ben, parmak arası terliklerle erimişzifte bastıktan bir adım sonra fark ettim ki, artık terlik giymiyor ve çıplak ayaklaerimiş zifte basıyordum. Terlikler bir adım arkamda, yere yapışmış olarak benibekliyordu. Kaldırıma oturup ayağımı ve terliği temizlemeye çalışırken kafamıkaldırdığımda, onar onar insanların beni izlemeye geldiğini fark ettim. Birçoğunun elinde telefonları, benim fotoğrafımı çekiyordu. Sonunda 60 kişiyevaran bir izleyici grubum vardı. Bunu fark eden Özge, ufaktan bir gülme krizinegirdi, ama bu önemli değil; hikaye benim hakkımda. Terliği ve ayağımıtemizledikten sonra (ayağımdaki zift ancak 4 gün sonra geçti, terlikteki halageçmedi) kalktık ve Red Fort’a doğru yürüdük. Arkama baktığımda o 60 kişilikgrup hala bizi izliyordu ve geri gelip bir şeyler yapmamızı bekliyordu sanırım.

Red Fort’a girdik ve biraz yürüyüş sonrasında oturupdinlenmeye karar verdik. Oturduktan sonra iki küçük kız ziyaretimize geldi veAçelya’nın yanına oturdular. Açelya da onlarla, Shriya’dan Pune’de öğrendiğibir tekerlemeyi söylemeye başladı. ‘ıçki mıçki caniye’ gibi bir şeydi.

Red Fort’tan çıkar çıkmaz kendimizi Anna Hazareprotestolarının ortasında bulduk. Herkeste bir bayrak vardı ve bağıraraksloganlar atıyorlardı. Pek bulaşmak istemeyip tren istasyonunun öbür tarafınagittik. Amacımız Özge’nin daha önce internetten araştırıp da bulduğu birrestorana gitmekti. Caddeyi bulduğumuzda fark ettik ki, Delhi’nin en turistik,otel ve bar dolu caddelerinden birindeydik. Neon ışıklarla dolu caddede sorasora Vagabond restoranı bulmaya çalışıyorduk ki, bir otelin güvenlikgörevlisine sordu Açelya ve Özge. Adam da buyrun deyip kendi restoranlarınıgösterdi. Ancak Hindistan’da aptal beyaz turist damgası yememek için ‘Hayırgirmiycez’ orası başka restoran’ demeye başladık. Güvenlik görevlisinin menüyügöstermesiyle fark ettik ki, orası gerçekten Vagabondmuş. Hiçbir şey olmamışgibi içeri girdik.

Yemek yerken dışarıdan geçen kalabalığı fark edip onuizlemeye başladık. Krishna’nın doğum günü kutlamaları sebebiyle yemek yediğimizsokaktan ışıklar, atlar ve gösteri arabaları geçiyordu. Bir süre onlarıizledik. Gösteri ve yemek bittiğinde sokakta açık (ve güzel) bir bar aramayabaşladık ancak bulamadık. Bunun üzerine, kaldığımız yere çok da uzak olmayan,Hard Rock Cafe’ye gittik. Ben telefonumu takside düşürdüm ve farkında biledeğildim. Bunu fark eden taksici hemen arabayı sürmeye çalışıyordu ki, Açelyafark etti ve gecemin kahramanı oldu. Hard Rock’ta içip muhabbet ettikten sonraeve döndük, Amit’i uyandırıp anahtarı aldık ve bu sefer yatak denilebilecek birşeyde uyuduk.

In the morning it was hard to realize that it was themorning because in the room we slept, there was no Windows. Özge and Görkemwoke us up and together we have made our breakfast with Monaco and Çay Keyfi(Biscuits from India and Turkey). We didn’t trusted the Office area so we havecarefully arranged a spot for the bags and took a couple of pictures of them,in order to understand if it has been moved or not.

We went out, in order to go to Safdarjung’s Tomb. It hadwide landscape areas and lots of squirrels. In front of the door there was asign that said, for every camera they take 25Rs (0.49$, 0.36€). In fact the guywho sells the tickets wanted us to return there to Show the pictures we tookbut of course we haven’t went there. After leaving the place we have surroundedthe first ice cream vendor we saw, because we were melting. Açelya had a longperiod of thinking and then she decided to have the best looking one on thecard, but the disappointment she had after seeing the real ice cream, is stilla remarkable memory from our India Trip.

In order to visit the Red Fort in Delhi, we took the metro,still thinking like a stupid White tourist. We were imagining that we weresupposed to see the Red Fort while we got out but in fact we found ourselves ina place with woman and male prostitutes and with a big crowd. By asking thepeople where is Red Fort, we have found our way. It wasn’t actually too faraway but the crowd we were walking with was making everything a little hard.

When we arrived to Red Fort, because of the weather beingaround 40-42 degrees, the asphalt on the ground has melted. Me, who has notnoticed this just walked through it with my flip-flops and after one step ihave realized that i was wearing flip-flops no more. They have sticked on theground. I have sat on the pavement and started cleaning them and my feet. Inthe mean time we have realized that there are Indians all over us, coming ingroups of ten while holding their cell phones directly to me, in order to takepictures. Özge, had a small nervous break-down in the mean time, but this storyis about me. In the end there were around 60 people who were looking at me, asif i am doing a Show. After i have cleaned my feet and my flip-flops (which icould have only cleaned only after 5 days) we have got up and started walkingto the Red Fort. When i have looked back, i have realized that they were stillthere and still wanting to Show to go on.

We entered the Red Fort and after walking a little we havesat down and there 2 little girls have visited us. They have sat withAçelya, and she has tried to sing the new nursery rhyme that Shriya has thoughther and they sang together. It was something like ‘ıçki mıçki caniye’. I don’treally remember.

We stepped out of Red Fort by the time it was getting closedand found ourselves in the middle of the protests for Anna Hazare. Indian flagswere everywhere. We didn’t wanted to involve with it so we have passed thetrain station, in order to find the Restaurant that Özge have found from theinternet before she arrived. When we have found it’s Street we realized that itwas the most touristic street full of hotels and bars covered with neon signs.We were asking people about the Vagabond restaurant so Özge and Açelya askedthe security guy of a hotel. The guy invited us to the hotels restaurant. We weretrying so hard not to be considered as stupid white tourists so we said that weare not going to enter that restaurant, we are looking fort he Vagabond. He haskindly showed us that the hotel’s restaurant was Vagabond. We played it cool,didn’t said a word and entered in.

While eating, the ceremonies for Krishna started in the Streetnext to the restaurant. Lights, horses and Show cars were passing by. For awhile we have watched that and after it’s finished we tried to find a decentbar on the street but we failed to do so. We decided to head to the Hard RockCafe, which was not far away from the place we were staying. We went there, hadsome drinks, and went back home. We woke up Amit to take the keys and slept ona bed this time.

2. Gün (Delhi)

Delhi'ye sabah 6 gibi vardık ve Kuzeyde bizle gezecek olan ablam, Özge'yi aradım. O bizden 2 saat önce Delhi'ye İstanbul'dan direk uçuşla varmıştı. Delhi'de konaklama işini Couchsurfing'den bulduğumuz biri olan Amit'te kalmayı planlayarak yapmıştık. Amit'in evinin bizim geldiğimiz tren istasyonu ve Özgenin indiği havaalanının tam ortasında olduğundan, Özge ile orada buluştuk. Evinde kalan öteki Couchsurferlar oldugunu söylerek, bir arkadaşının olduğunu söylediği bir eve götürdü. Evden bahsetmemek daha iyi. Orada su akmadığından ve komşularımızın evcil olmayan kemirgenler olmasından ve kapıdaki kaslı erkek posterinden sonra normalde kalmamız gereken yere duş almaya gittik ve orada, yerimizi calan Fransiz kızlarla tanıştık.

Kızlar odayi terk ettikten sonra duş alıp biraz yol yorgunluğumuzu giderdik. Daha sonra evin altında olan Amit'in ofisine ugradik ve ondan Delhi uzerine tavsiye aldik. Metro ile Qutab Minar'a gittik. Ancak metro istasyonunun isminin Qutab Minar olmasına rağmen, metro Qutab Minardan 1.5 km uzaktaydı. Rickshawa binmek zorunda kaldık. Richshaw şöförü tarafından alıkoyunulup bir hediyelik eşya ve bilimum Hint elbiselerinin satıldığı 'Jaipur' isimli bir dükkana götürüldük. İçeride ne ürünleri ne de fiyatları beğenmeyip çıktık ve biz zaten Jaipur'a gidicez dedik. Rickshaw şöförü, ki bizi dükkana götürene kadar çok mutluydu, dükkandan bir şey almadan çıkınca alamayacağı komisyondan ötürü suratsız bir şekilde yola devam etti. Qutab Minar'a gidip biraz orada vakit geçirdik. Daha sonra kıyafet alisverişi yapmak icin Sarojini Nagar'a gittik. Havanın korkunç sıcağından ötürü başka bir yere gidelim diyip metroya binmeyi bahane ettik. Metroyu beklerken kapılarının cok hızlı kapanması üzerine, Özge ve ben içeri yetişemedik. Bunun üzerine Görkem ve Açelya bir sonraki durakta bizi beklemek durumunda kaldı. Dışardan bakıldığında tam 'aptal beyaz turist' olmuştuk. Metro içindeyken Sarojini Nagar'a gitmekten, nasıl gidildiğini algılayamadığımızdan vazgeçmiştik ancak tüm bu yanlış inme binme sayesine Sarojini Nagar yazan okları bulduk ve oraya gittik.

Sarojini Nagar (kod adı Eminönü) sonrasında metroya binip merkezde indik ve oradaki tourist infodan bilgi alıp yemek yiyecek güzel yer tavsiyesi aldık. English Dairy isimli mekana gidip thali (tabldot) menu aldik. Bu sayede Özge de ilk Hint yemeğini yemiş oldu. Pune'de yediklerimizden çok daha iyiydi. Yemek sonrası CoffeeCafeDay'de kahve icip eve geri döndük. Ilk gittiğimiz yerde tuvalet çalışmadığından Amit'ten bize baska bir yer ayarlamasını rica ettik yoksa otel bulma çabalarına girişecektik ki Amit bize baska bir yer ayarlayacağını söyledi.

Metroya binip döndüğümüzde bize bir ofisin boş bir odasını ayarladığını gördük. Boş dediysem de, gerçekten boş, ne koltuk ne yatak, bir tane sandalye ve eski dosyalar. Koltuk ayarlicağını söyledi biz de en azindan tuvalet calisiyor diyip pek umursamadik. Tuvalet çalışıyor dediysem de, girişi dışarıdan olan, evyenin yarısının kırık olduğu ve toplam 1 metre kareye sığmayan bir yerdi. Yukarı çıktık ve duş alıp tekrar dışarı çıkmaya hazırlandık.

Ilk olarak Amit ve bir arkadaşı ile Jayjays adında bir kebabçıya gittik, daha sonra yanimiza Fransizlar da katıldı. Canlı Hint müziği olan restoranda yemeğimizi yedik dans etmeye Urban Paint isimli bir yere gitmeye karar verdik. Yolda, Görkem ve Özge'yi eve bıraktık.

Urban paint, duvarlarında erotik Khajuraho rolyefleri olan ve herhangi bir muzik tarzina bagli kalmadan her tür müziği ardı ardına vermekten çekinmeyen rengarenk yerdi. Mekan, bir sarkinin yarıda çalmayi kesmesi ile kapandi ve biz de eve... Pardon, ofise geri döndük ve uyumayı denedik.

Görkem'in Notu: Özge ile ofise geri döndükten sonra, bizi kapıda karşı komşumuz olan yaşlı bir teyze karşıladı. Ve kapıyı yüzümüze kapattı. Sırasıyla tuvalete gittik. Tuvalette ışık olmadığından dolayı geri döndüm.Özgeyle kaldığımız yerin saçmalığından dem vururken, garip konuşmalar duymaya başladık. Bu sırada duvarda bulunması gereken sıva komple yere düştü. Özge sigara içmek üzere dışarı çıktı. Ve beni çağırdı. Dışarıda gördüğü mızrak motiflerinin satanizmle ilgili olup olmadığını sordu. Kapıda dilini çıkaran korkunç maskı da göstermesiyle yap-boz tamamlanmıştı.

Can ve Açelya eve, pardon ofise gelene kadar binbir komplo teorisi kurduk. Sonra da ofis koltuklarında uyumayı denedik.

We have arrived to Delhi, around 6 in the morning and called Özge, my sister who also joined us to travel north. She arrived 2 hours earlier to Delhi then us, with a direct flight from Istanbul. Accommodation was arranged by me with a Couchsurfing. Our hosts name was Amit and his house was in the middle of the train station that we arrived and the airport Özge arrived. So we decided to meet in the house. When we met him, he told that there were other Couchsurfers in the regular house so he took us to a friends house. It's best not to talk about the house. There was no water and our neighbors were untamed rodents and finally the poster with the wrestlers on the wall made us decide to go to the regular house that we were supposed to stay, at least to have a shower. There we have met the French girls who stole our beds.

After the girls have left the room we all too shower and went to Amit's office, that was right underneath the house and took some advices from him about Delhi. Our first stop was Qutab Minar so we took the metro and got off in the 'Qutab Minar' metro station thinking that we have arrived. It wasn't how we expected. Qutab Minar the monument was 1.5km away from the Qutab Minar the metro station so we took a rickshaw. The driver made us go from a longer way to make us see a store that he gets commissions for everyone who buys something from there. The stores name was 'Jaipur'

We didn't like the products neither the prices so we have left the store saying, "we are already going to Jaipur". The driver who was so happy until the moment he took us to the store, became sour faced when he saw us walking out of the store without buying anything and took us directly to Qutab Minar without saying a single word. We have spent some time there and left to go to Sarojini Nagar, to buy some clothes. There was a face-melting hotness in the air so we took the metro. When the metro arrived Görkem and Açelya stepped inside and fastly, the doors have closed to my and Özge's face.With sign language we told them to wait in the other stop. We were the 'stupid white tourists'. Before even going to the metro we couldn't understood how to go to Sarojini Nagar, but thanks to this mistake, we have realized that we were in the right stop to go there.

After Sarojini Nagar (an open bazaar area), we took the metro once more and went to the city center (or at least we thought it was). We took some info about where to eat and etc. They orientated us to a restaurant called English Diary where we ate a Thali menu. This was Özge's first Indian meal. To be honest it was much better than the ones we have ate in Pune. After meal, we went to CoffeeCafeDay to drink coffee and finally went back home. In the first place there was no water even for the toilet so i asked Amit to find us another place or i had to search for a hotel but he said he'll arrange something.

When we arrived there, we have realized that he has arranged us an empty room in the office. When i say it's empty, believe me. Just a chair and lots of paper. He told that he'll get a couch and we didn't really cared because at least the toilet was working. It was working but it was outside and half of the sink was broken. The total space was smaller then 1 square meter. We went upstairs to take shower.

First, Amit and a friend of his took us to a Kebab restaurant called Jayjays. Afterwards, French girls have arrived.With live Indian music we have ate our dinner and to dance we went to a place called Urban Paint. On the way there, Görkem and Özge decided to return home.

Urban Paint was a bar with an interesting interiors. There were erotic Khajuraho scenes on the walls. The music genre changed in every 3-4 songs. It was a colorful area where lots of people came to dance. They decided to close the bar with cutting a song while it wasn't even finished yet so we returned to home.. i mean office.

1.Gün (Pune-Delhi treni)

Evden eşyalarımızı toparlayıp çıkmadan, Çağrı ve Anette ile vedalaştık. Çağrı bizden ayrılacağı için o kadar üzüldü ki köşede sineye çekilip ağlamaya başladı. Biz de daha çok üzmemek için evden hızlıca çıktık. Perşembe gecesini cumaya bağlayan sabahın 2 buçuğuydu, Sailesh bizi evden almaya geldiğinde. Arabada giderken camdan Çağrı'yı gördük, 'Gitmeyin lan' diye bağırarak araba ile beraber koşuyordu.

Sailesh bizi tren istasyonuna bıraktı. Pune sokaklarini ilk kez bu kadar bos gormustuk o gece. Sabah 4'te kalkması gereken tren için saat 3'ten itibaren istasyondaydik. Tren istasyonunda ve dışında herkes altlarına battaniyeyi almış uyuyordu. Aralarından kendilerine basmadan geçerken bize ilgi dolu gözlerle bakmaya başladıklarını gördük. Kapali bir dükkan onune bavullarimizi koyup uzerlerinde oturarak beklemeye başladık.

Goa'daki Vasco istasyonundan kalkıp Delhi'ye giden trenimiz saat 4'e10 kala istasyona yanaşti biz de içeri girip yerlerimizi bulduk. Ac 3-tier kompartmanında kalıyorduk. Klimalı ve 3 tane ustuste yatakli bir kompartman olan ac 3tier tum gece klimasi ile bizi üşütse de, en azından rahatsız değildi. Kompartımana girdiğimizde Bir teyze uyuyordu sadece ve teyze 26 saatlik yol boyunca sadece 2 defa tuvalet molası verdi ki biz trene binmeden önce de uyuduğunu varsayarsak, kadının uyku potansiyeli bizi epey şaşırttı.

Sabah uyandiğimizda bize oglen yemeği siparişimiz soruldu. Menude ya 'veg' ya da 'non veg' seçeneği var. 'Non veg' menusu istedik. Bir kaç saat sonra, saat 1 gibi chicken briyani geldi. Tavuk epey guzeldi ama pilav onu karsilayacak kadar degildi.

26 saatlik tren yolculugunda sıkıntıdan uyuduk, muhabbet ettik ya da müzik dinledik.
Aksam yemeğimizi de kompartimanimizdaki fare ile yaptiktan sonra uyuduk.

Before we have left the house, we have said our farewells to Çağrı and Anette. Çağrı was so disappointed on us leaving, he started to cry in the corner. We didn't wanted to make him even worse so we left quickly. On the night that connected thursday to friday, Saliesh took us with the car. While going we realized that Çağrı is running next to the car saying 'Don't go!'.

Saliesh left us in the train station. That night was a first for us to see the Pune streets so empty. Our train was supposed to leave at 4 but we started waiting at 3 o'clock. Inside and outside the trainstation, everybody was lying down with a blanket under them. It was quite hard to walk next to them with out waking them up. While walking so carefully we have realized the looks on us. We have putted our luggage in front of a closed shop and sitted on them.

The train which started from the Vasco Station in Goa and supposed to go to Delhi, arrived to Pune at nearly at 4 o'clock. We have entered inside and found our seats. We bought our tickets from the AC 3tier which is a compartment with 6 beds and an air condition inside. Even though we have felt cold the entire night, at least the bed wasn't uncomfortable. When we have entered our compartment, we have seen a senior lady who was sleeping and except for the 2 bathroom brakes she has never moved and slept for 26 hours. Counting the times we haven't seen, her sleeping potential has suprised us.

In the morning they have asked what we want to eat, 'veg' or 'non veg' menu. We all ordered 'non veg'. After a couple of hours, we had a Chicken Briyani menu. The chicken was really tasty but the rice wasn't that good enough.

In the whole 26 hours of train, we have either talked, listened music or slept out of boredom.
After having our dinner with the mouse in our compartment, we have slept.

Kuzeye gittik gelcez

Bugun ofisteki son gunumuzdu. Raki icerek kutladik. Kuzeye dair herseyi 1 eylulden sonra paylasacagiz. Takdir edersiniz ki internetimiz olmayacak.

Today was our last day in the office. We celebrated it with drinking Raki. Everything about North will be posted after first of september because we won't have any internet.

Goa

Cuma gecesi 00.40’ta önceden ayarladığımız taksi ile Goa’ya yola çıktık. 4 kapılı, Maruti Suzuki Swift ile yola çıktık. Sürücümüz Sunil, İngilizce’yi sadece derdini anlatabilecek kadar konuşabilen bir Hintliydi. Yol boyunca yüksek müzikleri, sürekli korna çalarak gitmesi ve otobanda kamyon makaslayarak kullanması üzerine zaman zaman kendimizi araba yarışı filmlerinde hissettirdi bizi. Saat 10.50’de Goa’ya girdik. Sunil sınırda 550Rs(21.6TL) para istediklerini söyledi. Fişe baktığımda 200Rs(7.8Tl) yazıyordu, gerisini sorduğumda, Hint polisinin rüşvet aldığını ve sistemin çok bozuk olduğundan bahsetti. Ben hala kendisinin de cebe para attığını düşünüyorum ama beni anlayacak kadar İngilizcesi yoktu.

Anette’i Baga Beach’teki hoteline bırakıp, Anjuna’ya, kendi hostelimize yola koyulduk. İndikten sonra Sunil’in ben burda bekliyorum demesi üzerine fark ettik ki metre hala çalıştığı için arabayla bir yere gitmiyordu ve başımızda kalarak sürekli bir gidiş saati soruyordu ve üzerine hangi öğündeysek onu söyleyerek ‘me-lunch-hungry’ ya da ‘me-dinner-hungry’ diyerek para istiyordu.

Kuzeye gidişimiz için bir biletimiz olmadığından tüm bir hafta Pune-Delhi arası trenlerle kafayı bozmuştuk, ancak hiç birinde yer yoktu. Ofistekiler de bize Yabancı turist kotasını ya da Tatkal kotasını tavsiye ettiler. Yabancı turist kotası, sadece pasaportu olan turistlerin, trenin kalkış noktasından bilet almalarına yarayan bir yöntem. Tatkal ise, tren kalkış gününden 2 gün önce açılan bir kota, acil durumlar için. Pune’deki iki adet tren istasyonuna da gittik ve Yabancı turist kotasının sadece trenin kalkış yerinde olduğunu söylediler. Goa SF Express treni, Goa’dan kalkarak, Pune’den geçerek, Delhi’ye varıyor. Hazır Goa’dayken bilet almaya buraya gidelim dedik. Tek sorun, bizim başlangıç durağını Madgaon zannetmemizdi. Öncelikle Madgaon’a gittik, ki bu hostelimize yaklaşık 60km uzaklıkta bir yer ve şoför dahil hiç birimiz yolu bilmiyordu. Daha sonra oradan bizi Vasco De Gama tren istasyonuna yönlendirdiler. Sonunda alabildiğimiz 1230Rs(48.3TL) değerindeki biletleri için, neredeyse bir o kadar da taksi parası verip yarım gün harcadık. Ama değdi, artık kuzeye gidiş için biletimiz var.

Hostel civarlarına dönüp yemek yemeye gittik. Hiçbir yeri gözümüze kestirememiz yüzünden uzun süre yürüdük. Benim ayağımdaki FlipFlop’lar patlamasaydı, daha uzun süre de yürüyebilirdik muhtemelen. Avalon adında loş ışıklı ve az müşterili bir restorana girdik. Uzun süredik dalga sesi duymadığımızdan, sesler öyle tatlı geldi ki kulağa; ne yemeklerimizi 1 saat geç getirmeleri umrumuzda oldu, ne de ışıkların loşluğunda etrafı göremememiz.

Evershine Guest House’a döndüğümüzde odamızın önünde Kolombiyalı ve Amerikalı iki adet Hindistan’ı gezen kız ile bir iki saat muhabbet ettik. Kolombiyalı olan ürün tasarımcısı çıktı. Dünya küçük.

Ertesi gün, Ipad’den bulduğumuz kadarıyla kahvaltıya’a German Bakery’e gitmeye kadar verdik. Haritadaki yolu takip ediyorduk ki yağmur yağmaya başladı. Sıcak yağan yağmurun altında German Bakery’e vardığımızda fark ettik ki, orası bir süredir (görünüşe bakılırsa uzun bir süredir) kapalıydı. Biz de kendimizi sahile atmaya karar verdik. Sahile vardığımızda açık tek yer, Anjuna Beach’in sonunda gibi gözüküyordu, biz de oraya yürüdük. Mekana ulaştığımızda isminin Curlie’s olduğunu öğrendik ve içerisi epey kalabalıktı. Denize yakın bir masa bulup hemen kahvaltı ısmarladık. Baconlı omletler ve çikolatalı pankekimizle, ara sıra yağmurlu, ara sıra güneşli deniz manzaramızla, Goa’yı yavaş yavaş sevmeye başladık.

Öğlen yemeğimizi de orada kalamar ile yapıp Hostele geri gittik. Hostelde birkaç saat sızdıktan sonra akşam yemeğine Anjuna’da bir yerler aradık. Girdiğimiz ‘Eatopia’ isimli mekanda hepimiz noodle yedik. Ben acısızdır diye ismine kanıp ‘American Chopsuey’ yedim. Kırmızı renkli ve acılı bir noodle üzerine yumurta kırılmış olarak geldi. Açelya ve Görkem de Chicken Hakka Noodle yediler.

Yemek sonrası gene Curlie’s’e gitmeye karar verdik. Bu sefer hiç yer olmadığından biralarımızı alıp taşlara oturduk. Sürekli çalan Trans müzik ve dalgalar üstüste gelince ilginç bir müzik oluşturuyordu. Yağmurun çiselemeye başladığını fark ettiğimde kalkıp hemen bize bir masa buldum ve oraya oturduk. Yaklaşık 1 dakika sonra herkes sırılsıklam içeri kaçtı. Biz önce gelip masa kaptığımızdan ayakta kalmadık. Bunun üzerine çikolatalı ve muzlu pankek ısmarladık.

Otururken Umman’dan gelip Pune’de eğitim gören biriyle tanıştık ve bize Pune’yi gezdirebileceğini söyledi ancak son haftamızda ona ne kadar vakit ayırabiliriz, bilmiyorum.

Sabah uyanıp, Evershine’da hatıra fotoğrafı çektirip, Baga Beach’e, Anette ve Manish ile buluşmaya gittik. Britto’s cafe’de omlet ve sandviç yiyip yola çıktık. Sunil’in sürekli araba makaslaması ve virajlara gaza basarak girmesi zaman zaman bizi ürkütse de yapacak bir şey yoktu, sıkı tututunup bitmesini bekledik. Molamızı McDonald’s’ta verdik. Hindistan’ın İngilizlerden bağımsızlık günü olduğu için Hint bayrağı renklerine bürünmüş McDonald’s’ta, servis görevlileri Kurtalarla servis veriyordu. Çok beğendik, taktir ettik. Bizimkiler de önemli günlerde şalvarla sipariş alsınlar.

Saat 22.00’da toplam 1059.8 km yol yaptıktan sonra evimizin önüne geldik, Çağrı bize kapıyı açtı ve Sunil’in trafik canavarlığından kurtulmuş olduk.

Friday night, around 00.40, we have taken the pre arranged taxi to Goa. It was a Maruti Suzuki Swift that had 4 doors. Our driver Sunil was only able to talk in English in a very basic level. For the whole road, with the loud Indian pop music, constantly horning and passing the trucks one by one without any order, made us feel like in the car racing movies. Such as ‘Fast & Indian: Goa Drift’.

Around 10.50, we have entered Goa. Sunil said that the police asks for 550Rs(8.4€) in the border. When i looked at the bill it said 200Rs (3€). So i asked him why is it like that. He told me that Indian police is very corrupted and they take bribe. I still wonder if he was the one who took the extra Money but i can’t be sure.

We left Anette, at her hotel in Baga Beach and left for Anjuna, to our hostel. When we reached to our hostel, we realized that Sunil can’t go anywhere because we were still on the meter and he was constantly asking if we were going to go somewhere again or other wise asking Money for food, saying me-lunch-hungry or me-dinner-hungry.

We still didn’t had a ticket for our trip to North, so we were obsessed with the train ticket issue. People in the Office suggested that we can use the Foreign Quota or the Tatkal Quota. Foreign quota is only for tourists who has a passport and Tatkal is a emergency ticket which you can only buy it 2 days before departure. Both of them were risks. First we tried the foreign quota by going to Pune Station, but they have told us that it can only be bought from Goa, the origin station. So while we were in Goa, we decided to went to the Train station to buy the ticket. The problem was, we thought that the ticket was being able to bought from Madgaon (60km from our hostel) but we realized that it wasn’t the origin station of that train, but Vasco De Gama train station was. There we have finally bought the ticket for 1230Rs(18.8€), we gave nearly that much of a taxi price and spent half a day. But at least, we have a ticket to Delhi now.

We returned back to our hostel and started to look for a place that we can eat. We couldn2t decide on a place to eat because it was really empty. If the flipflops that i was wearing wouldn’t suicided, we2d walk more, but we had to stop at a restaurant called Avalon. It had a dark way of lightning and nearly no costumers inside. We didn’t cared about the food being 1 hour late or the darkness, we have missed the sea so much so concentration was there.

When we returned to Evershine Guest House we have spent 1-2 hours talking with the other guests there, a girl from Colombia and another girl from U.S. The Colombian was also a product designer, the World is small.

The other day when we woke up we found a place from Görkem’s Ipad, called The German Bakery. While we were following the way on the map, it started raining like a proper monsoon day. We have reached to The German Bakery but it was closed. In fact, by the look of it, we’re guessing that it was closed for a long while now. So we decided to try finding a place on the beach. On the beach we have realized that the only open restaurant was in the end of the Anjuna Beach. When we walked to it, we learned that it’s name was Curlie’s. It was crowded inside so we felt relieved. We found ourselves a table and ordered food immediately. With our bacon omlette, chocolate pancake, sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny sea view, we have started to like Goa.

We have ate our lunch there with Calamari and returned to the hostel, slept there for a couple of hours and went out to find a place to eat dinner. We have found a place called Eatopia. I ordered, American Chopsuey and Görkem and Açelya have ordered Hakka noodles. The thing i ate was red noodles with a egg on it. Pretty weird.

After lunch we decided to go to Curlie’s again, since we had no idea where else to go, or how to go. This time there was no place to sit so we took our beers and sitted out side. With the constantly playing trance music, the waves have made a different harmony. After a while i have realized that it has started raining so i went inside to find us a table. After 1 minute everybody ran inside really wet. Noone got a table because they were just too slow. We ordered chocolate and banana pancake.

While sitting we have met a guy from Oman, who was studying in Pune, that told us he can Show us Pune but i don’t know how much time we can spend with him in our last week.

The other day, we took a souvenir photo in Evershine Guest House and took the taxi to go to Anjuna, in order to meet with Anette and Manish. We ate Omlettes and a sandwich at Britto’s cafe and started the way back. With our traffic monster Sunil, there was noting to do but wait, holding to each other very closely. We took a brake in McDonald’s. The day was India’s Independence Day, the day that they have kicked English people out of the country so all the McDonald’s personnel was wearing Kurtas. We liked it very much. We hope that in Turkey they would serve with traditional Turkish clothes on important days.

At around 22.00, we have made 1059.8 km and reached to our home. Çağrı opened the door to us and we have gotten rid of our traffic monster, Sunil.

Cumartesi akşamı yemek yemeğe üçümüz, Çağrı, Shriya ve Shriya’nın bir gece önceki tanıştığımız arkadaşlarından biri Yedi ile, Jewel Square’deki Frangi Pani Pub’a gitmeye karar verdik. Jewel Square’re girdiğimizde Çağrı ve Görkem elektronikçilere girdiler; ben, Açelya ve Shriya da Mango’ya girdik. Açelya gerçekten alışveriş yaparken, ben ve Shriya içerdeki kıyafetlerin yarısıyla dalga geçmekle meşguldük. Kepenkleri üstümüze kapatan Mango yetkilileri bizi kısa bir süreliğine korkutsa da çıkmak istediğimizde neyse ki bizi içeride bırakmadılar.

En üst kata çıktığımızda Frangi Pani’de oturacak yer olmadığı için barda bekleyebileceğimizi söylediler. Biz de riski göze almayıp hemen yanındaki, Alex Velasco’yla Frangi Pani’ya gelip de kıyafetlerimiz yüzünden alınmadığımızda gittiğimiz, Indijoe’s’a gittik. Cumartesi günleri açık büfe hizmet veren yere yemek artı bir bira dahil 375Rs (14.80TL) verdik.

Yemeklerin hiç de acı olmadığı ve açık büfe olduğu için yemeğe büyük bir mutlulukta devam ediyorduk ki, Görkem’in arkasında masamızı röntgenleyen bir aşçı belirdi.

Görkem’in fotoğraflarını çekmesi üzerine sağa doğru süzülerek kaçan aşçıyı, gece boyu bir daha görmedik. Tatlılara geçtiğimizde fark ettiğimiz çukulata şelalesi ve tatlılar sayesinde çok güzel bir yemek yiyip, çok da güzel zaman geçirdik. Hatta zamanın nasıl geçtiğini anlamamamız üzerine restorandaki ışıkları kapatıp bizi nazikçe dışarıya davet ettiler.

Restoran çıkışında Görkem ve Çağrı eve dönerken, ben, Açelya, Shriya ve Yedi Frangi Pani Pub’a girdik. Eğer dans eden insanları, sürekli konuşan dj’yi ve alevli bar tezgahını saymazsak, dekorasyonu ile gerçekten bir pub. Ama saydığım şeyler işin içine dahil olduğundan mekana pub/disco demek daha doğru olabilir. Kapıdaki cüsseli abime güvenip, gece 1.30’ta kapanacak zannederken, 45 dakika önce kapanması eğlencemizi yarıda kesti. Paşa paşa eve döndük.

On Saturday evening we decided to eat out, in Frangi Pani Pub in Jewel Square with Çağrı, Shriya and Shriya’s friend Yedi, whom we have met the day before. Once we arrived to the Jewel Square Görkem and Çağrı entered to the electronics store and me, Açelya and Shriya entered Mango. While Açelya was actually shopping, me and Shriya was busy making fun of the clothes. People working in Mango closing the shop while we were still in it was a little scaring but at least they have letted us go out when we wanted to.

When we arrived to the top floor, they told us that there is no place to sit in Frangi Pani so we had to wait in it’s pub, we decided not to wait. We choosed the place next to it, Indijoe’s, the one which we also ate when we came to Frangi Pani with Alex Velasco, but didn’t managed to enter because of our clothes. On Saturdays, they was no menu to choose from, but an open buffet. The price of the open buffet plus a beer is 375Rs (5.82TL).

While we we’re feasting ourselves with the open buffet, we realised the cook behind Görkem, who was spying on us. Because of Görkem taking his pictures he has creeped away to the right side. We haven’t seen him again for the whole night. When we passed to the desert we realized that there was a chocolate fountain. We were really happy once the meal finished. We have spended so good time that we didn’t realized how fast time passed, so the restaurant closed the lights to guide us out kindly.

Görkem and Çağrı decided to return home and me, Açelya, Shriya and Yedi entered the Frangi Pani Pub. If you don’t count for the wildly dancing people, constantly talking dj and the burning bar Show, with it’s decoration, it was a normal pub. But i guess the the things i have just counted makes it a Pub/disco. We have foolishly trusted the muscly bodyguard and thought that it was going to close at 1.30 but it closed 45 minutes earlier then that. We had to go home having half fun.

Can ve Açelya spora başladığından dolayı akşamları evde tek başıma kalıyorum ve tek başıma geçirdiğim zamanımı film izleyerek değerlendirmeyi seviyorum. Çünkü burada yapabilecek daha iyi bir şey yok. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist filminin 19. dakikasında Çağrı'dan kısa mesaj geldi. Ona, Kothrud otobüs durağında inmesini ve India Infoline yazılı neon tabelaya doğru yürümesini istedim.

Bir kaç dakika sonrasında Çağrı'dan beklediğim arama gerçekleşti. Bana indiğini ve yürüdüğünü, nerede durması gerektiğini sordu. Sol tarafında Zero Degree Ice Cream adlı firmayı bulacağını, kaldırım olmadığından dolayı yolda dikkatli yürümesi gerektiğini söyledim. Filmi durdurup, dışarı çıktım. Yolda yürürken havada her zaman olduğu gibi hafif bir nem vardı. Dondurmacının önüne geldiğimde Çağrı'nın da bana yaklaştığını gördüm. Can ve Açelya dışında birisiyle daha anadilimde konuşacağımı farkedince keyiflendim. Çağrıyla selamlaştıktan sonra elindeki rakı torbasını aldım. Yolculuğun nasıl geçtiğini keyfinin nasıl olduğunu vs. sordum. Hepsini Türkçe cevapladı. Pune'ye hoşgeldin diyerek bloga koymak üzere fotoğrafını çektim.

Eve gelip çantaları torbaları bıraktık. Biraz dinlenip etrafı gezinmek üzere dışarı çıktık. İlk olarak Reliance Fresh adlı süpermarketin (hiç de süper değil) üstünde bulunan spor salonuna doğru yol aldık. Can'ı aradım, Çağrı'nın geldiğini nerede olduklarını sordum. Salondan çıktıklarını belirtti. Spor salonunun önüne geldiğimde bir kere daha aradım. Can'ın telefonu kulağına götürdüğünü farkettiğimde aramayı iptal ettim. Boşuna kontörümüzün gitmesine gerek yoktu, yüzyüze konuşabilirdik. Can'a seslendim. Can ve Açelya'da Reliance Fresh'in otoparkında tanışmış olmuşlardı. Fotoğraflarını çektim. Spor yapan ikili eve gidip duş alacaklarını belirttiler ben de Çağrı'ya yolumuzun üzerinde bulunan yemek yerlerini, bakkalları ve bilmesi gereken diğer dükkanları gösteriyordum.

Yolun karşısına geçip Pune merkeze doğru yürümeye başladık. Yol boyunca ofis ortamından, Hindistan'dan ve yemeklerden konuştuk. Aşağı yukarı 1km yürüdükten sonra uzun zamandır aradığım ucuz sandaletleri bulduğumu farkettim. Kendime 150Rs'ye (5lira68kuruş) Honda marka sentetik mantar kokan siyah kırmızı sandaletleri aldım. Parayı uzatırken Can aradı. Apache adlı restoranda yiyebileceğimizi kendisinin yemek yapmak için yorgun olduğunu belirtti.
Onaylayıp telefonu kapattım. Çağrıyla önce sağa sonra sola sonra sağa sonra sola sonra sağa sonra sola bakarak karşıdan karşıya geçtik. Paud Road üzerinde Can ve Açelya'yla buluşup Apache'ye doğru yürüdük. Yokuş çıkarken yolda kurbağa gördüm. kurbağaların derisinin nemli kalması gerektiğini bildiğimden , üzerine tükürdüm. Hayvancağıza yardım etmenin verdiği huzurla yoluma devam ettim.

Apache'ye girmeden önce Çağrı'ya paan denemek isteyip istemediğini sordum. İstemedi.
Rock restaurant Apache de sadece 2 kenarına 2şer sandalye konulan bir masaya oturduk. Her kenara 1 sandalye düşecek şekilde düzenleyerek verimli düzene kavuştuk.
Hepimiz tavuk sipariş ettik. Burada insanlar az porsiyon (5 parça tavuk şiş ve bolca soğan) yemek yediğinden, garsonlardan ekmek istedim. Olmadığını ifade ettiler. Roti (Bir lavaş çeşidi) istedim. Olmadığını ifade ettiler. Chapati (Başka bir lavaş çeşidi) istedim. Olmadığını ifade ettiler. Paratha (başka bir lavaş çeşidi) istedim. Olmadığını ifade ettiler. İçimden küfür edip biramdan bir yudum aldım.

Takım elbiseli garsona geri dönüp fotoğrafımızı çekmesini rica ettim. 3. tekil kişiye makinanın hangi düğmesine , ne kadar sertlikte ve ne kadar süre basması gerektiğini anlatırken eblek bakışlı bir fotoğrafa sahip oldum. Kadere boyun eğip yemeğime devam ettim.

Yemek sırasında birbirinden alakasız şarkılar çalmaya devam etti. Archive - Fuck You, Nirvana - Come as you are (unplugged), Third Eye Blind ve Murat Boz (şaka) bunlardan bazıları...

Eve geri dönüş yolumuzda Motorsikletli bir grup bize VUHUU diye bağırdılar. Biz de onlara bağırdık. Evimizin yakınlarında bulunan modern kahvehane önünde fotoğraf çekiyorlardı. Fotoğraf çeken kişiye makinayı bana vermesini, benim çekebileceğimi belirttim. Çekinmeden verdi. Açelya da toplu fotoğrafa katıldı. Bu sefer fotoğraf makinesinin arkasındaki görünmez adam sadece ben değildim. Can ve Çağrı da lanetime ortak olmuşlardı. Çekilen fotoğraf üzerinde hintlilerin ne çeşit yorumlar yapacakları üzerine geyik yaptık.

Eve gittiğimizde Anette de Çağrıyla tanıştı. Çağrı'ya ertesi gün odaları paylaşacağımızı belirtip son kez uyumak üzere hazır yatağa uzandım.

Herkes uyuduktan sonra Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist adlı filmi izlemeye devam ettim. Başka bir dandik Michael Cera filmi izlediğim için kendime kızdım. Geçen zamana üzülürken uyuya kalmıştım.

~Görkem

Since Can and Açelya started Gym, i am staying alone at home in the evenings, watching movies. Because there is noting better to do at home. While i was on the 19th minute of the movie called, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, there was a text from Çağrı. I asked him to get off the bus at Kothrud Bus Depot and walk towards the neon Infoline sign.

In a couple of minutes, i received the call i was expecting. Çağrı told me that he was walking and asked me where to stop. I told him that he was going to see an ice cream store on his left, called Zero Degree Ice Cream and he should walk carefully because there is no sidewalk there. I have paused the movie and got out. While walking, there was high moisture as always. When i reached in front of the ice cream store, i realized that Çağrı was walking towards me. I got pretty cheerful when i talked with someone in my mother language, except for Açelya and Can. I have greeted Çağrı and took the bags of Rakı. While walking home, i asked him how was his trip and if he is ok etc. He answered all of them in Turkish. I took his Picture as a ‘Welcome to Pune’ in order to put to the blog.

We arrived to home and left all the stuff we were carrying and left to walk around a little, in our neighborhood. First we walked to the Supermarket (which is not super at all) called Reliance Fresh. On the top floor of it’s building, there is the Gym, Can and Açelya is going to. I called Can and told him that Çağrı has arrived and asked him what are they going to do. He told me that they were about to leave. I called again once we have arrived to the parking lot of the Gym. I have seen Can from a distance while he was taking his phone next to his ear. I hung up the phone, there was no need for unnecessary credit for talking on the phone, we could have easily t face to face. I have call out to Can. So Can and Açelya met Çağrı in the parking lot of Reliance Fresh. I took their photo. Can and Açelya, told that they were going home to take a shower so i took Çağrı to Show a few of the near by places like restaurants, markets or any kind of other stores that he should know.

We have passed across the road and started walking towards the city center of Pune. While walking, we have talked about Office, India and Indian food. After walking approximately for 1 km, i have seen the sandals that i was looking for a long time. I bought them for 150Rs (2.32€). It’s brand is Honda which black and red and smells like synthetic cork. While i was giving the Money, Can called me and said that he was tired to prepare food for tonight and wanted to go to Restaurant Bar called Apache. I said ok and we started the way back.

We first looked at right, then left, then right, then left, then right, then left, then right, then left, then right and then left and we decided to pass across the Street. We have met with Açelya and Can on Paud Road and started walking up the hill for Apache. While walking i have seen a frog. I know that frogs need wet environment so i have spitted on the frog. I have continued walking with the inner peace that got from helping the poor animal. I asked Çağrı if he wants paan. He said no.

In the rock restaurant Apache, we have sitted to a square table which had 2 seats on both sides. We have changed the seats order as 1 seat on each side, to use the table more efficiently.

We have all ordered chicken. Because of the portions being less (5 piece of chicken with lots of onion), i asked the waiter for some bread. He said there is none. I asked for Roti (somekind of bread). He said there is none. I asked for Chapati (somekind of bread). He said there is none. I asked for Paratha (some other kind of bread). He said there is none. I drinked a sip from my beer while swearing in my mind.

I asked the waiter in the suit, for him to take a Picture. While telling the third person, which button to press and how hard he should press and for how long he should press, i have got myself another picture with my face kinda goofy. I have bowen to the inevitable and started eating.

While eating, the were lots of unrelated songs to each other such Archive - Fuck You, Nirvana - Come as you are (unplugged), Third Eye Blind and Murat Boz (joke).

While walking back home, a group of motor bikers shouted us Woo-Hoo. We shouted back at them. They were taking pictures in front of the modern cafe which is close to our house. I asked the guy who was taking the Picture, so that i could take it. He gave it without hesitating. Açelya also joined the Picture. This time, not only i was the invisible guy, this time Can and Çağrı has joined to my curse. We have chit chatted about how will be the reactions when they’ll see the Picture.

When we arrived home, Çağrı has met with Anette. I told Çağrı that we’ll change the beds tomorrow and lied down to the bed for the one last time.

After everybody felt asleep, i continued Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. I got angry with myself for watching another stupid Michael Cera movie. I felt asleep while i was getting sad for the time that has passed while watching.

Sabah uyandığımızda Tanmay bize çay yaptı. Sütlü çayımızı içerek dışarı bakarken, yağmurdan dolayı yakın çevrede olan bir mağaraya gitmemeye karar verdik. Evde biraz tembellik yaptıktan sonra Tanmay’a teşekkür edip bir fotoğraf çektirip evi terk ettik.

Tanmay’ın tavsiyesine uyup, evine yakın olan Kareem’s isimli bir Kebab Restoranına gittik. Etleri çok güzel ama biraz acı olan restoran bize, iç mimarisiyle ve çalan müzikleriyle adeta Türkiye’yi hatırlattı.

Yemek sonrası Purple Travels’ı bulmak için Andheri’ye doğru yola çıktık. Yaklaşık 45 dakika boyunca önümüze gelen herkese yön sormamıza rağmen, herkes bizi farklı bir yere yönlendirdi. Sırtımızda çantalar ile Mumbai’da uzun bir süre dolandıktan sonra nihayet bir otobüs bileti satan yer bulabildik ancak maalesef Purple Travels değildi. İncecik bir merdivenle çıkılan ‘Travel Agency’ olduğunu savunan bir yerdi. Biletimizi oradan aldık ve beklememiz gereken yere doğru yürüdük. Kayboluşumuzun 5 dakikalık bir videosunu en altta bulabilirsiniz.

Sonuç olarak Purple Travels’ta yer olmadığından Neeta ile gitmek durumunda kaldık. Neeta, Purple’a kıyasla daha rahatsız ve klimadan ötürü daha soğuk bir otobüse sahipti. Özellikle verdikleri filmin sesinin çok yüksek olması, uykumuzun en tatlı yerinde bizi uyandırıyordu. Unutmadan, Dvd Playerlarının adı da Samsonic’di. Samsung-Panasonic ortak markası olsa gerek.

Mola verdiğimiz yerde bekleme koltuklarının Panton sandalyeleri olması bizde ufak çaplı bir şok yarattı. Dükkandaki Malatya kayısıları da üstüne eklenince kısa bir süre şaşkınlığımızı üzerimizden atamadık.

When we woke up, Tanmay offered us some tea so we drank tea with her in the morning. Because of the rain we have skipped our plan about going to the caves near by. We spent some time at house a little more and then we left the house for good, saying our thanks to Tanmay.

With Tanmay’s reccomendation we went to eat to a restaurant called Kareem’s, to eat Indian Kebab. The meat was really good but the restaurant reminded on us about the Kebab Restaurants in Turkey, with its music and decoration.

After the meal we took a Richshaw in order to g oto the Purple Travels in Andheri. We have walked around for more then 45 minutes to find it and asked nearly everyone. We walked in Andheri with our bags and finally we saw a place that sells bus tickets but unfortunately, it wasn’t PurpleTravels. It was a small travel agency on the second floor that you can enter with a small stairs. We bought our tickets from there and walked to the place where we were supposed to wait.

As a result, there was no place for Purple Travel’s bus, so we bought from Neeta which was a little uncomfortable and cold because of the a/c compared to Purple. Especially, the voice of the Dvd being so loud, made us wake up constantly. An done little information on the Dvd player, it’s brand was Samsonic. It must be a co-brand of Samsung and Panasonic.

In the place where the bus took a brake the seat was Panton Chairs. Inside we have seen the apricot from Turkey, Malatya. These two made us have a small schock for a while.

Kalkar kalkmaz dışarı çıktık ve bir Rickshaw ile Malad tren istasyonuna gittik ve Churchgate’e giden ilk trene biletimizi aldık. Trendeki tutma yerlerinden anlaşıldığı kadarıyla maksimum hizmet vermekte bu trenler. 10 cm aralıklarıyla tavana koyulmuş tutma yerlerininden de anlaşıldığı gibi Mumbai’de trenler yaygın olarak kullanılmakta. Yol boyunca biz manzarayı ve tavandaki vantilatörleri, öbür yolcular da bizi izleyerek 1 saat 15 dakika içinde Churchgate istasyonuna vardık.

Oradan çıkıp istasyon dışındaki turist ofisine gidip şehir hakkında biraz bilgi, birer de harita aldık ve Gateway of India’ya doğru yürümeye başladık.

Yol üzerinde sokak satıcıları hemen önümüzü kesip bize Hint perküsyonu olan Tabla satmak için yanaştılar. Mango ağacı ve cardboard (sıkıştırılmış kağıt) versiyonları olan Tablaları ısrarla satmaya çalışan satıcılar sonunda istikrarları sayesinde hepimize birer tane satmayı başardı. Tam onlardan kurtulduk derken, satıcılar müşterilerini değişti ve bizim elimizdeki Tablaları, kendilerindeki daha iyilerle değiştirmeye çalıştılar. Uzun bir süre derdimizi anlatamadık, zaten var istemiyoruz diye. Bu sırada önünden geçtiğimiz üniversite öğrencilerinin bize gülerek içlerinden yazık dediklerini duyar gibi oldum.

Sonunda arkamızdaki satıcıları atlattık ki bu yaklaşık 15 dakika sürdü. Gateway of India’ya vardığımız anda yağmur çok daha hızlandı ve sertleşmeye başladı. Bu sırada şemsiyeli bir Hintli geldi ve nereli olduğumuzu sordu. Ben de kendisinden tahmin etmesini istedim. İtalyan, İspanyol, Portekizli diye saydı ama tutturamadı, biz de Türk olduğumuzu söyledik. Elindeki yağmurda ıslanmasın diye pvc kaplattırdığı kağıttan bize ufak bir Mumbai turu teklif etti. İlk başta pek sıcak bakmamış olsak da, yağmurun etkisi ile kuru bir araba fikri çok iyi geldi ve turu kabul ettik.

İsminin Raj olduğunu öğrendiğimiz adam, bizi arabalarının yanına götürdü ve Cafer isimli şoförüne bizi teslim etti. Raj’a kendisine nasıl güvenebileceğimizi sorduğumuzda, bize 20 senedir aynı yerde ofisi olduğunu ve 20 sene sonra gelirsek kendisini gene aynı yerde bulabileceğimizi söyledi, tatmin olmuş gibi yaptık ve Cafer’in arabasına bindik.

İlk durak Ghobi Dhat isminde, yüzlerce kişinin elbise yıkadıkları bir yerdi. Biz gittiğimizde öğlen saatleri olduğundan pek yıkayan kalmamış olmasına rağmen, kamerayı görünce coşan biri sayesinde işlemin nasıl yapıldığını çok net görme fırsatı bulduk. Mumbai çevresindeki ‘laundry’lere kıyafet verdiğiniz zaman buraya getiriyorlar ve burada kıyafet yıkıyor ve ütülüyorlar. Turun ilk ayağı bitince çıkıp, kısa bir mesafe uzaktan, Nariman Point’i görebileceğimiz bir balıkçı köyüne geçtik. Bulunduğumuz yerden, Hindistan’ın ekonomik kalbini attıra

n gökdelenler ve iş kulelerinin hemen altında gecekondu mahallesini gören manzaraya bakarak ‘Ne olacak bu Hindistan’ın hali’ dedik.

Marine Drive’ı arabayla geçip, Chowpatty sahilinin ilerisindeki bir Jain Tapınağına girdik. Jain dinine mahsup insanlar, toprağın altında yetişen hiçbir şeyi yemiyorlar. Soğan, patates gibi sebzeleri Jain Restoranlarında bulmak bu yüzden pek de mümkün değil. Tapınağa girerken gene ayakkabılarımızı çıkardık, ancak içerisi iyi temizlendiğinden tüm tapınak kuru ayakla gezebildik. Tapınakta Hintliden çok yabancı vardı.

Tapınaktan çıkıp Hanging Garden adında, Marine Drive manzaralı bir parka gittik. Yağmur

altında fazla kalmak istemediğimizden arabaya döndük. Yol üzerinde Tower of Silence isminde bir yerin önünde durduk ve içeri girmek yasak olduğundan, Cafer bize arabanın içinden, görüş hizasında burası hakkında biraz bilgi verdi. Tower of Silence, Parsi toplumundan insanların öldükten sonra bırakıldıkları bir yer. Parsiler, İran Müslüman olmadan önce Hindistan’a gelmiş olan bir toplum. Eski geleneklerini aynı şekilde yaşatmaya çalışıyorlar. Bunlardan en önemlisi de ölülerini toprağa gömmeyip, vahşi kuşların yemesi için dışarıda bırakmaları.

Son durağımız olan Gandhi’nin evine girip içeride epey vakit geçirdik. 3 katlı olan eve giriş ücretsiz. İçeride bir kütüphane ve auditorium da var. İlk iki katta Gandhi’ye ait fotoğraflar varken üçüncü katta hayatındaki önemli anların maketlerle anlatıldığı bir bölüm var. Maketlerle kim uğraşmışsa ellerine sağlık. Gandhi’nin evinden çıkınca yol üzerinde Victoria İstasyonu’nun önünden geçerken Cafer onun üzerine biraz bilgi verdi.

Cafer, tur bitince bizi turun başladığı Colaba bölgesine geri bıraktı. Karnımız tüm bu 4 saat boyunca çok acıktığından, yemek yemek için bize bir yer tavsiye etmesini istedik Cafer’den. Bizi Baghdadi diye bıraktığı yerin iki sokak arkasında bir restorana yönlendirdi. Masala tavuk ve pilav o kadar güzeldi ki, o bunu okumasa da buradan bir daha teşekkür ediyoruz kendisine. Masasına oturduğumuz yaşlı adama da bize verdiği ‘masadaki biberlerden yemeyin’ tavsiyesi için teşekkür ediyoruz, muhtemelen yemezdik zaten, ama önemli olan düşünmesi.

Yemeğimiz bittikten sonra Haji Ali Dargah’a gitmeye karar verdik. Haritada çok yakın gözükmesine rağmen otobüsle 1 saat 15 dakika sürdü. Bu sırada otobüs kültürü ile biraz aşina olduk. Otobüste tanıştığımız amcadan öğrendiğimiz kadarıyla, Mumbai’de otobüslerde sağ taraftaki ilk altı koltuk kadınlara bırakılırmış. Eğer ayakta kadın yoksa oraya erkekler de oturabiliyor ancak kadın yolcu bindiği anda kalkmaları gerekiyor. Muhabbetimiz daha sonra Hindistan’ın kuzeyine vardı ve bize özellikle Jaipur’a gitmemizi tavsiye etti.

Otobüsle Müslüman mahallesinden geçerken uzun süre sonra ilk kez ezan da duymuş olduk. Otobüsle Haji Ali Dergah’a geldiğimizde bir köprüden yaklaşık 500 metre yürüyerek ulaştık. İçeri girmek için bir bakındık ama içerisi Jain Tapınağına kıyasla çamurlu gözüküyordu, dışarıdan izlemeye ve etrafında fotoğraf çektirmeye karar verdik.

Yemek öncesi yakınlarda bir alışveriş merkezi içinde kahve içip dinlendik. Akşam yemeği için HardRockCafe’ye gitmeye karar verdik orada. Alışveriş merkezi çıkışında bir taksi bulup gideceğimizyeri söyledik. Bu sırada sıkışık trafikte 8-9 yaşlarında bir Hintli çocuk geldi ve Açelya’dan para istemeye başladı. ‘Didi (abla) please’ diye defalarca tekrarladı ve Açelya’nın elindeki davula vurmaya başladı. Bunun üzerine Açelya da, çocuk davulunu çaldığı için ondan ‘Bhaiya (abi) please’ diyerek para istemeye başladı. Neyse ki o sırada trafik açıldı ki kısır bir döngü olmaktan kurtuldu olay.

Yanlış adres yüzünden HardRockCafe’ye gidişimiz yarım saat rötar ile sağanak yağmur altında taksi aramakla geçti. Mekanı bulduktan sonra bizi masaya almak için 15-20 dakika beklettirdiler.

Tıka basa yemek yedik ve garsonlardan YMCA şovu izledik.

Çıktığımızda yağmur iyice artmış olduğundan geceyi orada sonlandırıp eve dönmeye karar verdik. Tren istasyonunun sel yüzünden kapanmış olduğunu öğrenince ister istemez eve taksi ile döndük. O kadar yağmur vardı ki bindiğimiz taksi dahil, tüm arabalar sokakta yüzüyordu. Nerede olduğumuzu takip etmek için Görkem’in Ipad’ine devamlı bakıyorduk. İçinde herhangi bir sim kart olmamasına rağmen nerede olduğunuzu haritadan gösterebilmesi korkutucu olduğu kadar işe de yarar bir özellik.

Nihayet 45-50 dakika sonra eve vardık. Evde bizi Guava sulu vodkalar ile bekleyen Tanmay’la tekrardan oturup İstanbul’dan ve yemeklerden ve birçok farklı konudan bahsettik.

As soon as we woke up, we went out and found a rickshaw to take us to the Malad Train Station and bought our tickets to the first train that leaves to Churchgate. It’s easy to understand that the train is a very common way of transportation, just by looking the handles that are swinging from the top. During the train trip, we looked at the ventilators on top and the panorama from the train, while the other passengers were looking at us. After 1 hour and 15 minutes, we reached our destination and went to the tourist Office near by. We have gathered some information about the city and took a map for each of us. We left there walking to the Gateway of India.

While walking the Street vendors have surrounded us, trying to sell an Indian percussion called Tabla. There were Mango and cardboard ones possible. With their unfinished enthusiasm they have managed to make all of us buy one. When we started to think that they’ll leave us in peace now, they have changed their costumers and started saying the drums we bought are bad so we should exchange with them. While they were with us, we walked in front of a university and i almost have heard the students smiling and feeling sorry for us.

We have ignored the vendors and thankfully after 15 minutes they have went. When we reached to Gateway of India the rain has became even worse. There, an Indian guy with an umbrella aproached and asked where are we from and i asked him to guess. He said Italian, Spanish and Portaguse. So i told him that we are Turkish. He showed us the brochure of a city tour that he has laminated with pvc, in order to keep it dry in rain. First we didn’t thought that it would be a good idea but the idea of a dry car has tempted our minds so we agreed.

He told us that his name was Raj and made us meet with one of his drivers, Cafer. We asked Raj, how can we trust him. He said that he Works in the same place for 20 years and after 20 years if we’d return to Mumbai, we’d find him there. We acted like we trusted him and got in the car with Cafer.

First stop was an open laundry called Ghobi Dhat. Hundreds of people go there and wash clothes. Even though it wasn’t crowded, thanks to a guy who got really excited when he saw the camera, we learned how it’s being done. When you give your clothes to Laundries near Mumbai, they bring them here and they are being washed and ironed here. After the first stop we went to a fishers village where we can see Nariman Point from a distance. From the place where we were standing, the skyscrapers and the slums were next to each other. Cafer told us that, in India, the rich gets richer and the poor get poorer.

Driving from the Marine Drive, we have passed the Chowpatty beach and entered a Jain Temple there. Jain people doesn’t eat whatever grows under the ground. So it’s not possible to find vegetables like onion or potatos in Jain Restaurants. We had to take our shoes while entering the temple, but it was being cleaned regularly so our feet remained dry all the time. And one little useless information is, there were more foreign people then Jain people in the Temple.

Leaving the temple, we went to a park called the Hanging Garden, which has a Marine Drive view. The rain was getting annoying so we didn’t stood there for long time. On the road Cafer stopped the car and showed us the Tower of Silence. It’s forbidden to enter inside except fort he monks, so he told the story from outside. The Tower of Silence is a place where Parsi people are being left, after they are dead. Parsi’s have arrived to India, before Iran has became Muslim. They are trying to continue their traditions like old times. The most important of them is not to bury the dead but leaving them to the Tower of Silence for vultures to eat the dead bodies.

Our last stop with Cafer was Gandhi’s house. We have spent a long time there. It was free to enter to the 3 floored house, which had a library and auditorium inside. First and the second floors were full of Gandhi’s photographs. On the top floor, there were miniature models of the important scenes in Gandhi’s life. Whoever did those, we congratulate them. After leaving the Gandhi’s house we have passed in front of the Victoria Station, and Cafer gave us information about it.

When the tour was finished, Cafer dropped us back to the place where we started, Colaba. We got really hungry after this 4 hour tour so we asked him to recommend us a restaurant near by. He said that there is a restaurant 2 blocks away called Bhagdadi. The Masala Chicken and rice was so goo that we’re thankful for him. There was no free space so the waiter made us sit next to an old men, who has recommended us not to eat the pepper which was on the table. We’re also thankful to him, although i don’t think none of us would eat it anyway.

We decided to g oto Haji Ali Dargah, after leaving the restaurant, so we found the bus stop and tried the bus this time. Although that Dargah was looking close on the map, it took 1 hours and 15 minutes to reach there. In the bus we have met an man and had a small chat with him. He told us a little about the Bus system in Mumbai, such as the first 3 rows on right side are reserved for women. When there is no women, men can sit there but when there is a woman without a seat, the man has to stand up. Then our topic changed to North of India. He reccomended us about visiting Jaipur. While passing the Muslim neighborhoods, we have heard the Ezan fort he first time in India. When we have reached to Haji Ali Dargah stop with the bus, we had to walk 500 meters from a bridge to go there. We considered entering inside but it looked mudy compared to the Jain Temple. We decided to look from outside and take photos.

Before dinner, we went to a shopping mall to drink coffee and freshen up. There we have decided to eat in HardRockCafe. We found a taxi in front of the mall and told the place we wanted to go. There was lots of traffic so a little Indian boy came and started asking Money from Açelya, saying ‘Didi(sister) please’ for a long time and started to hit the drums on Açelya’s hand. So Açelya started to ask him for money, saying ‘Bhaiya (brother) please’. Fortunately the traffic disappeared so the chain has broken without noone getting any money.

Because of the wrong address, we had a delay of 30 minutes and had to stay under the rain while waiting for a taxi. Once we found the address, they made us wait for 15-20 minutes in the bar. We have watched the waiters do a YMCA dance. We were stuffed when we we left there. Seeing the rain we decided to finish the night in that point so we wanted to go to the train station, but they told us the train station is not working because of the floods, so we had to find a taxi. The water was so high that the cars were swimming, including our taxi. To see where we were Görkem used his Ipad. Even though there was no sim card in it, Ipad was showing where we were. It’s kinda scary and helpful in the same time. After 45-50 minutes of a taxi ride, we reached home. At the door Tanmay has greeted us with Guava juice with Vodka. We continued our talk about İstanbul, food and lots of other things.

Weekend Trip to Mumbai, Friday

Cuma günü sabahtan Tarun ile Purple Travels isimli bir otobüs acentesine gittik ve Mumbai için saat 18.15 otobüsüne biletlerimizi aldık. En ön ikili ve onun bir arkasında koridordan başka 3 kişinin beraber oturabildiği yer olmadığı için zorunlu olarak orayı seçtik.

Saat 5’te işten çıkıp pazartesi temizlenmesi için verdiğimiz kıyafetleri almaya gittik ancak adam hala hazır değil dedi. Adama başka kıyafetim kalmadığını anlatarak acele etmesini 1 saat içinde tekrar geleceğimi söyledim. Eve gittik ve hazırlandık. Bir saat sonra laundry’e yeniden gittim ve kıyafetlerimi istedim ancak hiç biri hazır değildi. Aralarından 2 tane t shirt ve Görkem’in kotunu seçip ütülettirdim.

Onlar da çantaya girdikten sonra otobüsü beklemeye gittik. Çok beklemeden geldi.

Otobüs kafamızdaki standartlara göre epey iyiydi. Önde oturduğumuzdan tüm yol Görkem fotoğraf çeker diye düşündük ancak otobüs yolculuğa başladığında bir perde ile yolcu bölümünü kapatıyorlarmış. Bunu öğrendikten sonra ister istemez tavanda asılı olan televizyondan verdikleri bir Bolywood filmini izlemeye başladık. Yol kenarlarında çok fazla otostopçu vardı. Pune’den çıktığımız andan itibaren Muson etkisini göstermeye başladı ve otobüs toplam 10 dakika ara vererek yaklaşık 4 saatte Mumbai’a vardı.

Kalacağımız yeri CouchSurfing’den ayarlamıştım ev sahibiyle buluşmak için Andheri’de inip bir Rickshaw bulduk. Malad West’e gittik ve kendisini aradım ve bizi evine yakın bir yerden alıp evine götürdü. Tanmay, Türkiye’de 3 ay geçirmiş ve oradaki yemek kültürüne epey aşina olmuş biri. Kaldığımız tüm süre boyunca ana konu yemekler oldu. Her konuştuğumuzda ağzımızın suyu biraz daha aktı. Gece boyunca konuştuğumuz diğer konular, Hindistan’da kadın hakları, Tanmay’ın Türkiye üzerine izlenimleri, bizim Hindistan üzerine izlenimlerimiz, Efes ve Kingfisher oldu.

On friday in the morning we went to Purple Travels with Tarun to buy bus tickets for Mumbai. We bought tickets for 18.15, right behind the front window, because there was nowhere else with 3 seats in a row.

At 5 pm we left work to get prepared. First stop was the laundry. We needed to take the clothes we gave on Monday, they have told us that they’d be ready on Friday but when i went the guy told me that they weren’t ready. I had to explain him that i had no other clothes so i have convinced him to make them ready in 1 hour. We went home and got prepared and after 1 hour i went back to laundry and he still told me that they were not ready, so i picked 2 tshirts for me and Görkem’s jeans and made him do a quick ironing. With those being ready on the last second we went to wait fort he bus.

The bus was better then in our ideas. We thought Görkem would be able to take lots of pictures the whole way but once the bus started we learned that there was a curtain between the passengers and the driver and that's being closed. So we had to watch the Bollywood movie from the hanging TV. On the road side there were lots of people who were hitchhiking. The moment we left Pune, the Monsoon started to Show itself. The bus reached to Mumbai approximately in 4 hours with 10 minutes of brake.

I have arranged the place we were going to stay, from CouchSurfing. In order to meet with our host, we got off the bus at Andheri and took a Richshaw to Malad West. I called him and he picked us up. Tanmay has spent 3 months in Turkey and he’s very much interested in the Turkish cuisine. The main subject of our stay was generally about food so we got really hungry the whole time. The other subjects was about women rights in India, Tanmay’s impressions on Turkey, our impressions on India, Efes and Kingfisher beers.

Wow I Feel Good!!

Dün akşam bir anda başlayan ve bize Hindistan’da olduğumuzu hatırlatan Muson yağmurları yüzünden, son anda dışarı çıkmaktan vaz geçip pizza ısmarlamaya karar verdik. Hindistan’da Dominos’tan sipariş vermedik demek olmaz deyip aradık Dominos’u. Telefonda sipariş veren garibim Görkem’i adeta ecel terleri dökerken izledim. Telefon numarası, adres ve siparişi beşer defa tekrarladıktan sonra kafayı yiyen Görkem’e ismi sorulduğunda, bir de ismini söyleyerek vakit kaybetmemek için James Brown ismiyle sipariş verdi ancak sonunda onu da hecelemek zorunda kaldı. Sipariş tamamlandığında adresi hala tam olarak algılayamadıklarından yola geldiklerinde alacağımızı belirttik.

Yarım saatlik bekleyiş sonrasında yan apartmana giren motorlu Dominos kuryesini durdurmak için Görkem evden koşa koşa çıktı ve yan apartmanın en üst dairesine kadar çıkıp kuryeyi oradan alıp bizim kapımıza kadar getirdi. Tek bir sorun vardı, o da bizim gelenler siparişimiz değildi. Adama yanlış sipariş getirdiğini anlatmaya çalışırken kuryenin İngilizce konuşamadığı fark ettik. Neyse ki bir anda, en ihtiyacımız olan anlarda karşımıza çıkan ve bizi tercümeleriyle kurtaran karşı komşumuz belirdi ve siparişin aslında gerçekten yan apartmana geldiğini söyledi. Halimize gülüp adamı salıverdik. 5 dakika sonra bizim gerçek siparişlerimiz, gerçekten bizim evimizin önüne geldi. Hatıra fotoğrafı çektirip pizzaları yemeğe başladık. Dominos Hindistan’da da güzel.

Thanks to Monsoon rains that reminded us that we’re in India, we decided to stay at home and order pizza, so we decided to try Dominos, in India. I have watched poor Görkem struggling his way to talk on the phone with the guy who was taking the orders. He has given the same information for 5 times, the address, the phone number and our orders. Then when they asked for his name, he was too tired to try to spell his name so he simply said James Brown. But he also had to spell that. After we gave the order, the guy on the phone explained that he didn’t understood the address so we said we’ll take the delivery guy from the Street.

After waiting for half an hour, we have seen a Dominos bike that entered next apartment to ours, so Görkem left the house running to stop him. He went to the top floor and found the guy and took him in front of our door and he gave us our orders. Everything was normal, except that the order was wrong. While we tried to explain that our order is wrong, we realized that he didn’t knew English. However, thankfully, our neighbor that suddenly appears whenever we need translation appeared again and said that those orders were actually from the next apartment. We laughed to ourselfs and letted the delivery guy return to the other apartment. After another 5 minutes, our delivery has arrived in front of our house. We took a souvenir photo and started eating the pizzas. Dominos is delicious also in India.

Goodbye Peynir

Evimize tam 1 hafta önce aldığımız Peynir’i, Açelya bu süre içerisinde elinden geldiğince tedavi etti ve gücünü geri kazandırmaya çalıştı. Veterinere götürüp, yarasını düzenli olarak temizleyip ona bakarken, biz de onlara uzaktan bazen sevgi ile, bazen de burnumuzu kapatarak baktık. Yürümeye tekrar başladıktan sonra onu aldığımız yere, sokaklara, geri bırakmaya karar verdik.

Az önce, trafoda yaşayan ailesinin yanına bıraktığımız Peynir’e iyi bakmış olduğumuzu umar ve uzun bir hayat dileriz.

Açelya has tried to give Peynir’s strength back for this whole week. While she took her to the vet and cleaned her wound continuously, we looked at them with love in our eyes and our noses closed with our fingers because of the smell. After she started to walk again, we dediced to leave her back to where we have taken her from, the streets. Just now, we have left her next to her family which lives in a power distribution unit in front of our house. We hope that we took good care of her and wish a long life.

A Weekend Trip to the Middle East

Cumartesi öğlen yemeği için ‘My Pune’ kitabından bulduğumuz Vaishali restoranına gitmek üzere yola koyulduk ve daha önce bindiğimiz bir Rickshaw’a bindik. FC Road (Ferguson College) üzerinde olan restorana ulaştığımızda 2-3 dakika sırada bekleyip masaya oturduk. Dosa ve Uttapa yerken yanında da Kokam denedik. Yoğun bir nar suyu olan içeceğe benim bile ağız tadım alışamadı.

Yemek sonrasına Shriya, İranlı bir arkadaşının evinde doğum günü kutlaması olduğunu ve bizim de gelebileceğimizi söyleyince, plana hemen atladık ve Sanchati Eklem Hastanesi’nin önünde Shriyayla buluştuk. Önce Shriya’nın evine gidip orada biraz Sula şarabı içtikten sonra yola koyulduk. Müslüman mahallesi kıvamında, çevresinde camiiler olan bir bölgedeki eve girdiğimizden itibaren kendimizi OrtaDoğu’ya ufak bir seyahat yapmış gibi hissettik. Şölen Diamond çikolataları ve onlara özgü olan Kermani Gaz’dan ikram ettiler.

Aperatif niyetine bunlar biter bitmez çiçekli tepsi üzerinde biralar; shot için vodkalar ve mini boy bir nargile ortaya çıktı.

Sonrasında ortada ısrar üzerine hafif göbek atmaya yakın bol bol dans edip Pitbull şarkılarında halay çektik, hardcore göbek attık.

Bir ara Açelya, İranlılara karşı evdeki armut koltuk ile futbol oynuyordu. Herkes yorulunca koltuklara gömüldük ve uyuyakalmış olan Ali’nin doğum günü pastasını ondan habersiz kesip yedik. İyi ki doğdun Ali.

Akşam Shriya’da kaldıktan sonra, sabah uyanıp Polka Dots isimli bir yemek yerine gittik. Orada İranlılarla yeniden buluştuk ve bir önceki günkü eve geri döndük. Bu sefer de kaçak çay ve hurma yedik. Akşamında da bir Nargile cafe’de vakit geçirmek için yola koyulduk. Cafeye gitmeden, bir elektronik dükkanına girip, Shriya’dan bize modellik yapmasını istedik. Cafe, aynı binanın 8. katında bir cafeydi ve camlarından tüm Pune’yi görmek mümkün.

Nargilecide Görkem limonlu şekerli tuzlu bir soda veAçelya çikolatalı milkshake içerken ben hala yerel lezzetler deneme adına mangolu milkshake ısmarladım. Tadı meyveli yoğurda benziyordu.

On Saturday, we left home to find a restaurant called ‘Vaishali’, which we have found from the ‘My Pune’ book. We have found a same driver that has drove us before and went to FC Road (Ferguson College). When we have reached there we had to wait for 2-3 minutes for a table and then we have sited. We have eaten Dosa and Utappa and tried kokam with it but it was a different taste for all of us.

After the meal, Shriya called us and told that an Iranian friend of hers is having his birthday party and asked if we’d also want to join, so we have met with Shriya next to the Sanchati Joint Hospital after waiting a little for her. First we have went to her place and drank Sula wine and left afterwards. We have went to the neighborhood that her friend lives which was a Muslim neighborhood with some Mosques around. The moment we entered the house we felt like in Middle East after being served some Şölen Diamond chocolates and Kermani Gaz. Beers, vodkas and a mini Shisha followed them. Afterwards we all started to dance in the middle. We have danced hardcore belly dancing with Pitbull songs. Açelya was playing football with the been bag chair against the Iranian friends. When everything was over we realized that the birthday owner Ali felt asleep so we have cutted his cake without his knowledge. Happy Birthday Ali.

After staying at Shriya’s place for the night, we woke up in the morning and went to a place called Polka Dots to eat. There we have met with the Iranians again and left to their house back. This time we were served Iranian tea and some Hurma. After leaving there we went to a place to smoke shisha. On the road we had to stop for gasoline and some air for the tires. When we reached the building, we first entered the electronics store in the first floor and asked Shriya for modelling us. Afterwards we went to the 8th floor, the cafe to smoke Shisha which had a Pune panorama. Görkem ordered for a lemony, sugary, salty soda, Açelya had chocolate milkshake and i insisted on local tastes so i had a mango milkshake. It tasted like Fruit yogurt.

11 yıl Türkiye’de kalıp, sırasıyla; İstanbul’da İTÜ, Ankara’da Odtü ve son olarak İzmir’de Ekonomi Üniversitesi’nde eğitim veren Alex Velasco, 2 gün önce Pune’ye geldi. Yeni açılan DC-DYP’de (Center for Automotive Research and Styling) eğitim vermek için gelen Alex’le, dün Kayahan Dede ve Ezgi Ezdar’ın tavsiyesi (baskıları) üzerine yemeğe çıkmak için plan yaptık.

Dünyada eşi benzeri milyonlarca daha olup, size bulunduğunuz şehri ve ülkeyi unutturan alışveriş merkezlerinden birine girdik ve oranın en üst katındaki restorana çıktık. Restoranın girişinde Sudhir’in sandaletleri ve benim şortum sebebiyle içeri girmemize izin verilmedi. Kızların kıyafetleri umursanmadığından biraz seksist bulduk ve hemen yanındaki restorana geçtik; onların kaybı. Alex’in eğitim vermeye başladığı okuldan Hrridayesh Deshpande’ın da katılmasıyla, yemeklerin yaydığı duman eşliğinde Türkiye’deki tasarım anlayışından Hindistan’a uzanan tasarım muhabbeti; dünyada değişen tasarım görüşleri ile son buldu. Daha uzatmadan, Pune’ye hoş geldin, Alex.

Akşam eve döndüğümüzde Açelya ve Anette, yolda bacağı yaralanmış olan yavru bir köpeği eve aldılar. Evde peynirden başka bir şey olmadığından gece peynirle besledik. Bu sebepten adını Peynir koyduk ancak yabancı dili pek iyi olmadığından Cheese diyerek de çağırıyoruz. Bugün Veterinerde gerekli aşılarını olan Peynir, iyileşene kadar bizimle kalacak gibi görünüyor. Daha uzatmadan, evimize hoş geldin, Peynir.

After staying in Turkey for 11 years, and educating in ITU in İstanbul, METU in Ankara and finally in İzmir Economy University, Alex Velasco has arrived to Pune, 2 days ago. He will be educating in DC-DYP (Center for Automotive Research and Styling). Thanks to recommendations (more like pressures) of Kayahan Dede and Ezgi Ezdar, we decided to give a welcome to Pune with a dinner.

We entered to a shopping mall that can be found any where in the world and that makes you forget about your current city or country and we went up to it’s top floor. In the enterance they didn’t letted us enter because of Sudhir’s sandals and my shorts. They told that woman's wear is not that important so we found it a little sexist and entered to the restaurant right next to it; their loss. With Alex and Hrridayesh Deshpanda joining us, we have started our conversation on design in Turkey, India and finally the world. There is noting more to say then this; Welcome to Pune, Alex.

When we returned home, Açelya and Anette decided to take the dog in front of our apartment who was badly injured from her leg. There was noting else then cheese at home so we gave her cheese to eat, and we decided to name her after Peynir, which means cheese in Turkish. But her foreign language is not so good so we also call her Cheese. There is noting more to say then this; Welcome to our home, Peynir.

Surfin' with a Kurta

Cumartesi günü, Arjun’un evliliğini kutlamak için Holiday Inn otelinde verilen akşam yemeğinde (açık büfe) tıka basa yemek yedik. Kurtalarımızı ilk kez giyme şansımız olan davette, tavuk dönerden, kuzu etine bir çok çeşit bulunuyordu. Holiday Inn ve Indi sayesinde, Hindistan’daki en güzel akşam yemeğimizi yemiş olduk.

Yemek çıkışı Manish Kumar, Shriya, Swapnil, Anette ve üçümüz, Scream adında bir gece klübüne girdik. Bir buçuk saat boyunca gerek yabancı gerek Bollywood müzikleri eşliğinde dans ettik. Sözün gerisini gif’lere bırakıyorum.

On saturday, we went to a dinner party (open buffet) in Holiday Inn, to celebrate Arjun's wedding. It was a chance to wear our new Kurta's so we didn't wasted it. On the menu there was a lot of option from Chicken döner to Lamp. Thanks to Holiday Inn and Indi, we have had our best dinner since we arrived to India.

We left the dinner to go to a club called Scream with Manish Kumar, Shriya, Swapnil, Anette and there of us. For around 1.5 hour we have danced with foreign and Bollywood songs. I leave the rest for the gif's.

Indian Clothes & Indian Breakfast

Dün Seema, Manish Kumar, Anette ve üçümüz iş çıkışı kendimize Hint kıyafetleri almak için Fabindia adında bir dükkâna gittik. Bildiğimiz kadarıyla, kalitesi itibariyle gözün kapalı alabileceğin bir yermiş. Yolda bizdeki tulumba tatlısına benzer bir şey görüp onu denedik. Jalebi isminde küçük simit formunda tulumba tatlıları.

Fabindia’da kendimize kısa ve uzun ‘Kurta Pajama’lar aldıktan sonra bir sonraki dükkân olan WestSide’a gittik. Orada Açelya kendine bir Dupatta aldı. Dupatta, şal mantığında kullanılabilen ve birçok rengi mevcut olan aynı zamanda dokunduğunuzda hissi de çok güzel olan bir kıyafet türü.

Bu sabah Manish Kori bizimle tipik bir Güney Hindistan kahvaltısını paylaştı. Öncelikli olarak Pirinç tozundan yapılan ve süt hariç hiç bir şey konmayan, buharda pişirilerek yapılan ‘İdli’yi denedik. Hindistan cevizinden yapılan biri acılı biri de çok acılı olmak üzere iki tür ‘Chutney’ ve bir adet kızmızı tonlara ‘Sambar’ sosuna batırarak yediğimiz ‘İdli’den sonra, muz yaprağına sarılı bir şekilde gelen ve epey yağlı olan ‘Dosa’yı denedik. Ağzımızda soslardan kalan acı tadı geçirmesi için de Pradeep bize KemalPaşa tatlısını andıran ‘Gulab Jamun’ sundu. Biz de çok mutlu olduk, afiyetle yedik.

Yesterday, Seema, Manish Kumar, Anette and three of us went to a store called Fabindia, after work. As far as we were told, this was supposed to be a store that you can buy clothes without any doubts about the quality. On the way to there we have seen a desert, very similar to a Turkish desert called ‘Tulumba’. The desert was torus shaped and called ‘Jalebi’.

In Fabindia, we have bought short and long ‘Kurta Pajama’s and we left the store in order to g oto another store called WestSide. There Açelya has bought herself a ‘Dupatta’ which is a scarf-like fabric with different varieties of colors that you can cover your neck with, and that has a really nice feel of touching it.

This morning, Manish Kori has shared his typical South Indian breakfast with us. First there is a ‘İdli’ which is being made with noting but boiling rice powder and milk. Then we have dipped them to different sauces like 2 kinds of ‘Chutney’; one spicy, one very spicy and a red sauce called ‘Sambar’. Then the ‘Dosa’ has followed them, being served on a banana leaf as a plate. When the breakfast finished, Pradeep has offered us ‘Gulab Jamun’, which is a similar desert called KemalPaşa, in Turkey. We have accepted it happliy and enjoyed it very much.

Weekend part 2 -Mahabaleshwar-

Sabah kahvaltımızı edip otelden çıktık ve Mahabaleshwar’a doğru yola koyulduk. İlk bulunduğumuz yerde 8-9 üyesi olan bir maymun çetesi ile karşılandık. Poz vermeyi çok seven maymunlar, manzaraya karşı fotoğraf çektiren insanların yanına geçip fotoğraf çektirmeye başladı. Ancak insanların da sahneyi terk etmesi ile, tüm dikkat onlarda yoğunlaştı. Oradan sonra biraz yürüdük ve yeşilin dolu dolu gözüktüğü tepelere vardık. Aklımıza Hobbit köyü Shire gibi renkler bırakan tepeden akan şelale ve olağanüstü manzarası bizi kendine hayran bıraktırdı. Bol bol fotoğraf çektirdikten sonra Mahabaleshwar’ın tapınak kısmına gittik.

Tapınakta herkesin ayakkabıları çıkartması ve kadınların vücutlarını kapatması gerekiyor. Erkekler istediği çıplaklıkta girebiliyormuş ama hava serindi, üstümüzü çıkarmadık. Çıplak ayak ile girip, tanrılarına başta Hindistan cevizi ve nakit para ve daha sonra tanrının tercihi olan sebze ya da meyveyi adayan Hintleri izledik. Adaklar için tapınakların hemen dışında bir çok dükkanda Hindistan cevizi ve türlü meyve ya da sokakta küçük kız çocukları 10rupiye sebze satarken bulmak mümkün.

Tapınaktan sonra gene kutsal bir mekan olarak kabul edilen bir yeri ziyaret ettik. Buranın kutsal sayılmasının sebebi, 5 farklı nehrin birleşmesi. Hindu dinine göre her nehir de ayrı bir tanrı olarak kabul edildiğinden, burası teknik olarak 5 tanrı gücünde. Akan suda yüzümüzü yıkayıp kutsandık.

Çıkınca, yanımıza gelen insan canlısı inekle vakit geçirdik. Açelya'yı çok sevdi kendisi, kıskanmadık değil. Arabaya atlayıp Mahabaleshwar'ın şehir kısmına gittik. Sisten ya da bulutlardan ötürü iki dükkan öteyi görmek dahi zordu. Sudhir ile bir restorana girdik ve tavuk sipariş ettik. Vitrindeki yeşil tavukları görüp onlardan istedik. Restoranın tuvaletine giderken, tavukların temizlenme anını görmek inanılmaz bir tecrübe oldu. Yağmur suyunda yıkanan tavuklar kesilip servise hazır hale geliyordu. Tadı çok güzeldi, tadı pisliğinde. Yemeklerimizi yiyip çıktık ve Strawberry Fudge yemeye gittik.

Dönüş yolunda molamızı Mapro Garden adında bir yerde verdik. Mekan eski bir fabrika olarak kullanılırken, daha sonra fabrikanın daha merkezi bir yere taşınması ile boş kalmış bir yer. Sahipleri de 'proper veg' restoranı olarak işletmeye başlamışlar. Tekrar yola koyulup Pune yakınlarında CafeCoffeeDay adında bir cafede durduk ve orada baharatlı bir çay olan Masala çayı denedim. Masala bir tür baharat değil, aksine, bir çok baharatın karışımı olarak kullanılıyor. Bu yüzden Bolywood filmlerine de Masala filmleri deniyor. İçinde neyden ne kadar bulabileceğinizi bilmek mümkün değil.

After making our breakfast we left for Mahabaleshwar. In the first place we went, we have seen a monkey gang of 8-9 monkeys. They seemed to enjoy giving poses to the cameras and when the people left they still waited on the scene to get their pictures taken. We walked a little while and withness the most vivid greens that reminded us on the Hobbit village Shire. Combined with a waterfall, the view was amazing. We took lots of pictures there and went to the temple area of Mahabaleshwar.

In the temple, people are required to take their shoes off and women has to cover their body parts. Men doesn't have to cover any part of their bodys. It was a little chilly so we decided to keep our clothes on. Bare feet we entered to the temple and saw the Indians sacrificing coconuts and cash money to their gods. It is possible to buy coconut or other vegetables or fruits that the gods choise from the market area right outside the temple. Otherwise its also possible to buy the vegetables from the little girls who are selling to 10 Rupees.

After the temple we left for another sacred place. The reason that this place is considerd to be sacred is that 5 rivers combine there. All the rivers are considered to be gods in Hindu religion so practically this place was considered to be powerful as 5 gods. We have washed our heads in the water and got blessed.

Leaving the temple a human loving cow has welcomed us. She loved Açelya the most so we're a little jelous. We took the car to go Mahabaleshwar's Market Ares. Because of the fog (or the clouds) it was hardly possible to see 2 blocks away. We entered a restaurant to eat proper chicken. We have seen the green chicken so we ordered those. Going to the toilet of the restaurant i have witnessed a great experience. I have seen that the chicken were being cleaned with the rain water and getting prepared right there. To be honest, they tasted quite good. We have a saying in Turkish: It's taste is in it's mess. We ate some strawberry fudge for the desert after the restaurant.

On the way back to Pune, we took a brake at Mapro Garden, which used to be a factory. After moving the factory to another place, the owners have decided to use the old factory as a restaurant that sells proper veg food. We left the place and stopped on our last stop before Pune. It's a cafe called CafeCoffeeDay. I tried the Masala tea which was spicy. Masala is not a spice by itself but it's a combination of a lot of spices. That's why the Bolywood movies are being called Masala movies. You don't know what you'll have, or in which amount.

Weekend part 1 -Panchgani-

Haftasonumuz epey meşgul geçti o yüzden ikiye ayırıp yazıyorum.

Sudhir bizi haftasonu için Panchgani ve Mahabaleshwar isimli yerlere davet etti. Indi’ye yeni katılan Finli stajyer Anette’in de gelmesiyle 5 kişilk tursit grubumuz Sudhir’in arabasıyla yola koyuldu. Yolda midelerimizi test etmemek için öğle yemeği durağımız, Aile restoranı, McDonald’s oldu. Hindistan’da McDonald’s’lar et olarak sadece tavuk servis ediyor. McDonald’s yemek istemeyenler için aynı yerin hemen yanında bir de Dominos Pizza vardı. Yolda ikinci molamızı bakkalı andıran, mekanın hemen dışında 2 adet masası ile çay servisi yapan bu yerde verdik. Buradaki Hintli teyzeler, Sudhir’e bizim nereli olduğumuzu sordu; Sudhir de Pune’liler dedi ama teyzeler pek inanmadı. Sütlü çaylarımızı içip yola devam ettik.

Yavaşça dağların tırmanırken birden yoldaki düzlük manzaralarıyla karşılaştık. Bu düzlükler, yerden dağ olacakmışçasına uzanırken birden kesilmişçesine düzleşiyor. Bunlara tabletops dendiğini öğrendik. Toplam 3 saatin üzerinde süren bir yoldan sonra, birçok Bolywood filmine de sahne olmuş bir tanesine çıktık ve arabayı park edip üzerinde biraz yürüdük. Dağlar arasında sıkışan bulutların ve ağaçların ton ton değişen yeşilleri ile buluştuğu manzarayı ara sıra yağan yağmur ile izledik. Uzakta üzerinde olduğumuz gibi tabletops oluşumlarından birçok vardı. Belli bir mesafeden bakıldığından adeta biri tarafından yapay olarak kesmişçesine düz gözüküyordu. Daha sonra öğrendik ki, buraların düzlüğü sayesinde futbol ya da kriket oynanabiliyormuş.

Oradan ayrılıp başka bir ‘tabletop’a gittik. Bu sırada Muson yağmurları öyle azıttı ki, içimize kadar ıslanmaya başladık. Bulutlar tarafından etrafımız sarıldığından uzak mesafeyi görmek pek mümkün olmuyordu. Burası bir önce gittiğimizden daha geniş olduğundan gezmek için bir at arabasına bindik. Bizi çok zor durumda bırakan Muson yağmurları, yanından geçtiğimiz kriket oynayan çocukları pek etkilemiyor gözüküyordu ki onlar biz tüm alanı gezdiğimiz süre boyunca oynamaya devam ettiler. Açıkçası biz önümüzdeki atı zor görürken onların kırmızı küçük bir topu görebiliyor olması takdir edilesiydi.

Üstü kapalı olan at arabasında giderken, sürücü de bize ilginç bilgiler veriyordu. Hint efsanelerinden uzaylı teorilerine kadar ilginç bilgiler öğrendiğimiz yolculuğumuz bittiğinde, at arabasından indiğimiz yerde, küçük bir şelaleyi andıran merdivenlerden inip, 1986 yılında cafeye çevrilmiş bir mağarada oturup gene sütlü çay içtik, ancak bu sefer yanında kızartılmış soğan da vardı. Masaların ve sandalyelerin kesilmiş ağaç köklerinden yapıldığı cafede, mobilyalar kesme ve cilalama hariç herhangi bir işlemden geçmemişti. Yamuk masamız, kuru bir mağara, sıcak sütlü bir çay ve ıslanmamak..

Ardından yorulduğumuzu fark edip Surya Hotel isminde bir yere girdik. Güneş manasına gelen Surya sayesinde, en temel Yoga hareketi olan ‘Güneşi Selamlama’nın Hintçesini öğrenmiş olduk; Surya Namaster. Yanlış anlaşılmasın güneş yoktu, buralar böyle Muson.

The weekend was pretty busy so we i’ll write separated.

Sudhir has invited us to places called Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar. New iinter for Indi, Anette has also joined us so our tourist group of 5 has departed from Pune. In order not to test our stomachs that day, we ate in a family restaurant, McDonald’s. In India, the McDonald’s are not selling any kind of meat except for chicken. There was also a Dominos Pizza right next to the McDonald’s, for who wishes to eat a pizza. Our second stop on the way was a small shop with 2 tables in front of it to serve tea with milk. The old Indian women, asked from where we are to Sudhir. He said that we are from Pune, but the women didn’t seemed to belive that so we drank our tea and continued our trip.

As we climbed the mountains slowly, we realised the flat surfaces on the view. We learned that these half mountains were called ‘tabletops’. After a journey of more then 3 hours, we have arrived to our first spot, which was a common shooting area for Bolywood movies. We parked the car and started walking around and enjoyed the view of clouds that has been stucked between mountains and different tones of green, with a little touch of rainy weather. Further away, there were lots of examples for tabletops. From a distance, they were looking as if they were being cutted by someone, or something. What we have learned was they were s oflat that it was possible to play football or cricket over them.

We have left there to go to another tabletop. There the Monsoon rains have been strongly increased that we were getting wet indide to out. Because of the clouds that has surrounded us, it was hardly possible to see the distance. This one was bigger then the previous one so we had to take a horse cart. The Monsoon that was troubling us deeply, didn’t seemed to be interrested. They continued playing cricket while we traveled all over. It was quite impressing they were playing with a small red ball, when we were hardly seeing the horse in front of us.

As we rode the horse cart, the driver was giving us interresting information about Indian myths to aliens. When it has finished we went to a cafe. İn order to go there we have taken stairs that felt like a small waterfall. The place was a cave that has been made a cafe in 1986. We drank more tea with milk, but this time we have fried onions with it. The furniture was made by cutting and polishing the trees and they didn’t had any other process. It was all about our inclined table, drinking warm tea with milk and not getting wet in a dry cave.

After leaving the cafe we realised how tired we have got and left to a hotel called Surya. Thanks to its name, we have learned the most basic Yoga move in Hindi language. Surya Namaskar, the sun salutation. But don’t get me wrong, there was no sun, it’s all about Monsoon here.

Happy Birthday Nikhil

Bugün ofiste staj yapan iş arkadaşımız Nikhil'in doğum günüydü. Seema, çalıştığımız bir sırada lounge kısmında onun için ufak bir kutlama yapıldığını söyledi. Pasta (acısız bildiğimiz pasta) ve cips (acılı) yedik. Ayrıca Indi'deki stajının da sonuna gelmiş olan Nikhil'e Kashmir bölgesine yapacağı seyahatte iyi eğleceler ve başarılar diliyoruz. İyi ki doğdun Nikhil ve tanıştığımıza memnun olduk, bi de pasta çok güzeldi.

Hava durumu haberlerinde ise Hindistan'da Muson yağmurları etkisini göstermeye başladı. Mumbai seller altında kalırken, Pune'de hava kısmen daha iyi, sadece sağanak yağıyor.

Today, it was the birthday of Nikhil, one of the interns who is also working in Indi. While working, Seema told us that there will be a small celebration for him. We have eaten cake (not chili or spicy, normal cake) and something similar to a potato chip (spicy and chili). It was Nikhil's last day in the office so we wish great luck and good fun in his trip to Kashmir. Happy birthday & pleasure meeting you Nikhil, the cake was delicious.

On the weather forecast news from us: Monsoon rains are getting effective in India. While Mumbai is under floods, the weather in Pune is better compared to Mumbai. It only rains heavyly.

Lokum&Rakı

Buraya gelmeden Türkiye hakkında bir sunum yapmamız istenmişti, bunun üzerine İstanbul'dayken Eminönü ve Taksim'de birer video çekmiştik. Bunları pazartesi günü (04.07.2011) sunduk. Yanında ilk olarak Lokum, sunum bitince de Rakı servisi yaptık. Rakı eşliğinde İstanbul ve Türkiye tarihi üzerine biraz konuştuk ve İstanbul'u bol bol övdük ancak ortam Rakı ortamı olduğundan konuşurken zaman zaman politikaya kaydım. Yapabileceğim bir şey yok, kanımdaki Rakı beni dürttü.

Before coming here, we were asked to do a small presentation about İstanbul. So we took 2 videos from Eminönü (the old city part) and Taksim (the youth side). We have presented these on monday (04.07.2011) while serving Turkish Delight. After the presentation we have served Indi, our national drink, Rakı. We have talked about İstanbul and Turkey's history while drinking Rakı, so i might have been tempted by the Rakı in my blood and started talking about politics.

Delhi Belly

Dün iş çıkışı Sudhir, Manish ve Shriya ile Little Italy isimli bir vejeteryan İtalyan restoranına gittik. Güzel, hafif baharatlı, Hint şarapları eşliğinde yemeklerimizi yedikten sonra Delhi Belly isimli sıradışı bir Bolywood filmine gittik. Tavsiye ederiz, görüntü yönetmeni çok iyi bir iş yapmış.
Yesterday after work we went to a vegetarian Italian Restaurant called Little Italy, with Sudhir, Manish and Shriya. We drank spicy Indian wines with our food and afterwards we have went to an unusual Bolywood movie called Delhi Belly. We'd strongly recomend it. The screen director did a perfect job.

Öğle arasında gözleme yedik. Her ne kadar onlar Aaloo Paratha (patatesli), Aaloo Gobi Paratha (patates ve karnıbahar), Aaloo Onion Paratha ve Aaloo Cheese Paratha isimlerinde sunsalar da, Türk mutfağına çok yakın olması bizi mutlu etti. Et yemediğimiz birinci hafta.

Bugün işte ilk kez parmak bastık. Benim parmak izimi 3 defa algılayamadı. Çok karakteristik parmak izim varmış. Ya da yemekten sonra yağlı parmaklarla bastım ondandır.

We have had Gözleme ('Observation') for lunch. Ok it's not basicly that thing but it looks and tastes very similar. They are being called Aaloo Paratha (with potato), Aaloo Gobi Paratha (with potato and cauliflower), Aaloo Onion Paratha ve Aaloo Cheese Paratha. Being close to the Turkish cousine made our stomachs realive a little. It's our first week with our proper meat.

Today at work we have made our fingerprint scanned. The scanner had hard time scanning mines. I guess i have very complicated fingerprints. or it was simply because of the greasy Aaloo Paratha on my fingers.

Trip on a two wheeler

Hafta içleri tüm günümüz işte geçiyor. Seema, Yammu’nun beni fotoğraf dükkanına götürebileceğini söyledi. Ben de hiç tereddüt etmeden “olur” dedim. Açelyanın ve kendi filmlerimi alıp Yammu’nun yanına gittim. Yammu şehre motosikletle ineceğimizi söyleyince, ofise geri dönüp dijital fotoğraf makinamı da yanıma aldım. Hindistanın kaotik trafiğinde, motorsiklet üzerinde fotoğraf çekmemek aptallık olurdu. Bloga video eklemek zor olduğundan –burada internet devamlı kesiliyor.- hareketli resim (gif) hazırlamak üzere ard arda fotoğraflar çektim.

Fotoğrafçıya geldiğimizde, turist kazığı yememek için, Yammu dışarıda beklememi söyledi. Fotoğrafları 3 saat sonra alacağımızı öğrenip, ofisin diğer işlerini halletmek üzere motorsiklete bindik. Bir sonraki rotamız noterdi. Noterde işimizi hallettikten sonra bankaya gitmek üzere yola koyulduk. Pune’deki en yaygın taşıt aracı sanırım motorsiklet. Ofistekiler bu şehrin diğer bi isminin motosikletler şehri olduğunu da söylemişti. (Gereksiz bilgi: Motorsiklete binen kadın ve erkekler türban benzeri kumaş parçaları takıyorlar kafalarına. İlk başta dini bir gereklilik gibi görünse de daha sonra Toz ve güneş için takıldığını öğrendim.)

Banka girişinde bir güvenlik görevlisi bizi tüfekle karşıladı. Yammu, işlerini hallederken benim oturmamı istedi. Seve seve kabul ettim. Banka çıkışında yaşlı bir amca yanıma yaklaşıp nereli olduğumu sordu. Sırasıyla Turkey, Turki, Turchia, Türkiye dedim fakat hiçbirini anlamadı. Yammu yardımıma koşup Turkistan dedi. Adam yüzünde bi ifade olmadan ayrıldı. Shaniwar Wada’da bu kadar revaçta olup yaşlı amcanın etkilenmemesi beni biraz üzmüştü.

Yammu, öğle yemeğine yetişmem için beni ofise yakın bi restorana bıraktı. Manish, Shriya, Tarun, Deepak, Açelya ve Can beni bekliyordu. Geldiğim gibi yemekleri sipariş ettik. 5-10 dakika içerisinde hazırlanan yemekleri afiyetle yedik. Yediğimiz yerin mutfağının Türkiye’deki büfelerden pek de farklı olmadığını görünce epey rahatladım. Hesabı ödeyip, ofise doğru yola koyulduk. İş bizi bekliyordu…

Weekdays are passing quite busy for us. Seema told that Yammu can take me to the film store to process the analog camera films so i took my and Açelya's film rolls with me. When Yammu told me that we are going to the store with a motorbike, i thought it would be a shame not to take pictures of chaotic city trafic on a motorbike so i took my digital camera. It's a little hard to share videos on the blog because of the internet connection, so i took several pictures one after anotherto make a small stop motion (gif).

When we arrived to the film store Yammu told me to wait out, in order not to get a tourist price. The guy told us to come after 3 hours. Next stop was notary. After finishing the things to do there we went to the bank. Pune's most preffered vehicle of transportation is motorbikes. People in the office told us that this city is also being called 'The City of Bikes'. (Unnecessary info: the bike drivers are generally wearing a piece of cloth while driving. First we thought it was for religious reasons but we have learned that they are only go get covered from the dust and the sun)

In the entrance of the bank, the guard was holding a rifle. Yammu wanted me to sit while he was handling with bank stuff so i said ok. There was an old guy came next to me and asked from where i am. I said Turkey, Turki, Turchia and Türkiye in this order but he didn't understood anything. Yammu saw us and told him 'Turkistan'. The old guy left without a mimic on his face. I was disappointed a little after seeing that the attention to us decreased after Shaniwar Wada.

Yammu, dropped me off in a close by restaurant to the office; where Can, Açelya, Manish, Shriya, Tarun and Deepak was waiting for me. We have ordered and it took around 5-10 minutes to eat. Seeing the kitchen of the place wasn't so different then the Turkish ones, so it made us relive a little. We payed and returned to work...

P.S.: The delay of updating our blog is caused by the busyness at the office, the film rolls to be processed, not having internet at home and our lazyness.

First Monday

Pazartesi, ilk iş günümüzde Sudhir bize staj dönemi boyunca yapacağımız üç adet işi saydı ve aralarından kendimize göre bir tane seçmek için oturup karar verdik. Seçeneklerden ilki bir meditasyon koltuğu tasarlamak. İkincisi lüks bir ayakkabı markası için stant tasarlamak. Üçüncü olarak da organik bir giysi markası için marka yaratma süreci. Görkem meditasyon sandalyesini, Açelya ayakkabı standını, ben de marka yaratma sürecini seçtim. Bunlara ek olarak bir de her stajyerden istenen t-shirt tasarımı istedi. Gitmeden önce bitirmemiz ve basılması gerekiyor.

Öğle yemeği için Tarun ve Manish ile ofise çok yakın bir restoranda yemek yedik. Yemeklere alışmak için hala ‘less spicy’. Yemek sonrası ofise döndük ve marka yaratma süreciyle alakalı müşteriler geldi ve üçümüz de yaklaşık 2 saat süren bir toplantıya girdik. Toplantı sona erdikten sonra önceki gün rickhsawda kazıklandığımızı birinci ağızdan duyduk, bunun üzerine bize üzülen ofis arkadaşlarımız bize bir fiyat listesi verdiler. Artık kazıklanmak yok.

Monday, on our first day of work, Sudhir wanted us to choose between 3 jobs while doing the internship in Indi. First one is to design a meditation chair. Second one is a stand for luxerious shoe brand and the third one is a brand creating process. Görkem has picked the meditation chair, Açelya has picked the shoe stand and i have chosen the brand creating process. Including this we are going to design t shirt graphics before we leave. As we have being told, this was something required to do by all the interns. It has to be printed before we leave.

For lunch we went to a restaurant close to the Office with Tarun and Manish. We are still getting used to the food, so still less spicy. After we returned, we have joined to a meeting with the owners of the company i’ll work for. It took around 2 hours. Once the meeting has finished we have learned that we were really cheated on rickshaw for sure. So our friends in Indi felt sorry for us and gave us a chart of rickshaw prices. No more getting cheated.

Shaniwar Wada

Ertesi sabah Sudhir eve geldiğinde ocağı tekrar sorduk. Meğerse ocak bizden zekiymiş. Üzerine koyduğumuz tencereler teflon olduğundan indüksiyon ocak çalışmamış. Diğer tavalara kaldık. Ardından ona günü nerede geçirmeliyiz diye sorduk ve Shaniwar Wada’ya gidin dedi. Rickhshawlara binerek yola koyulduk. Rickshawlar buradaki taksi sistemi. 3 tekerlekli ve bir AutoRickhsawMetre ile çalışıyor. Renkleri siyah ve sarı. Önde sürücü oturuyor arkada ise kaç kişi sığabilirse o kadar yolcu. Gidiş yolumuz 90 Rupi tuttu. Shaniwar Wada’ya vardık. Girişte pozitif ayrımcılığımız sona erdi çünkü kapıda Hintlilere 5 Rupi, turistlere 100 Rupiydi. Müze kartı yabancılara çıkarmayan bir ülkenin vatandaşları olarak yadırgamadan ödedik. Shaniwar Wada’nın içinde herkes bize sanki bir uzaylıymışızcasına bakıyordu. Hatta belki ünlü insanlarmışız gibi. Hepimizle birçok insan fotoğraf çektirmek istedi, kırmadık ve hatta biz de birçoğu ile çektirdik. Herkesin gözdesi Açelya oldu. Hepimiz çekildiğini fark ettiğimiz ve etmediğimiz toplam 50-60 adet fotoğrafta varızdır. Görkem devlet başkanı edasıyla el ele tutuşarak poz bile verdi. Yanıma gelen bir adam İngiliz misiniz diye sordu, Türk’üz dedim. Biraz bozuldu.

Shaniwar Wada sonrası kendimizi biraz arka sokaklara vurduk. Güzel kokulu yemek yerlerinden geçerken açlığı hissedip, kapısında kocaman Family Rastaurant Bar yazan bir yere girmek istedik ancak kapıdan bizi almadılar. Turistiz diye mi yoksa restoran kapalı diye mi bilemedim. Rickshaw’a atlayıp eve geri döndük. Bu sefer şoför bizden 200 Rupi aldı. Sistemi hala çözememiş olmamızdan yararlanan adam Hindistan’da ilk kazıklanmamıza yol açtı. Bulursam patakliycam.

The other morning Sudhir came over and we asked him again about the oven again and we realized that oven has outsmarted us with its technology. The induction didn’t worked because of the Teflon pot. We had to cook with the other pots. We asked him where should w ego and he recomended us to visit Shadiwar Wada. So we took a Rickshaw to go there. Rickshaws are the taxis here. They have three wheels and colored black and yellow. It Works on it’s AutoRickshawMeter. The driver sits alone on the front and the passengers sit on back. We’re not really sure if there is a capacity for passengers on them. When we arrived to Shaniwar Wada, we payed 90 rupees. The previlidge of being a foreigner stopped there when we saw that citizens of India can enter paying only 5 Rupees but foreigners have to pay 100. We didn’t really thought much about it, i mean we come from the country where only citizens of Turkey can buy a Museum Card. Inside people were looking at us as if we were aliens or maybe celebrity. Some of them wanted to take pictures with us so we didn’t said no. Generally their favorite one was Açelya. Görkem was giving hand shake photos like they are presidents. We have at least 50-60 photos that we have (and haven’t) noticed. A guy came next to me and ask if we are from England and when i said that we are from Turkey he got a little upset.

After Shaniwar Wada we went to the back alleys around there and after passing a restaurant with really nice smells we realized that it was time to eat so we have headed to a place that it said ‘Family Restaurant Bar’ but they didn’t letted us in. I wonder if they didn’t took us because we weren’t from there or it wasn’t time to eat. So we had to take a Rickshaw to return. The guy had his oppurtunity that we didn’t know how that system Works. So he took 200 rupees. 100 more then it’s supposed to be. He was the first person who has cheated on us in India. I’ll smack him if i get to see him again. He owes us 2.2$

Welcome to India

Evden ofise döndükten sonra Sudhir’in kardeşi Seema ve Indi çalışanlarından Deepak bizi evin etrafında dolaştırdı ve nerelerden alışveriş yapabileceğimizi gösterdi. Reliance Fresh ve Spencer’s isimli süpermarketlere sokup buralarda neler bulabileceğimizi gösterip çevredeki güvenilir ve lezzetli pastane, dondurmacı ve pizzacıları da gösterdiler.

Ofisten sonra Sudhir ve Seema ile evlerine gidip anne ve babalarıyla tanıştık. Bize çok sıcak davranıp sorduğumuz her tür soruyu büyük bir samimiyetle cevapladılar. Hint kültürüne karşı olan açlığımızı, kendileriyle yapabildiğimiz kısa ancak dolu muhabbet doyuramamış olsa da, bünyenin gerçek yemekle dolmasının vakti geldiğinden yemeğe çıktık. Sudhir, Seema ile Oasis isimli bir restorana gidip Hindistan’daki ilk yemeklerimizi yedik. Restoranda bize sabah Indi’de tanıştığımız Kuldeep de eşlik etti. Yemeklerin isimlerini hala daha tam olarak ayırt edemiyor olsak da (genellikle çok acı olmayanların) tatları adeta enfesti. Yemek yenirken çatal getirilmesine rağmen yemekler genellikle el ile yeniliyor. Chapati isimli pideye benzer ekmeklerinden sağ elimizle kopararak sulu yemeklere daldırarak afiyetle yedik. Alkollü içmek istemeyenler için menüde Cocktail’in yanında Mocktailların olması üzerine epey eğlendik. Kokteyl mokteyl işte, hepsi aynı.

After we have returned to the Office, we have went to explore our neigborhood with Sudhir’s sister Seema and an Indi worker Deepak. They have showed us the supermarkets which we can use while our stay; Relience Fresh and Spencer’s. Then we have seen the neigborhoods icecream store, pizza store and the bakery.

After leaving the Office, with Sudhir and Seema, we went to meet their parents. They have welcomed us in such a warm way and answered all of our questions in a Even though we couldn’t fulfilled our hunger of learning about the Indian culture, we had to fulfill also our stomachs. So we went to a restaurant called Oasis and ate our first meal in India. There Kuldeep, who we have met at Indi in the morning, joined us. We still can’t differentiate the meal names but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t enjoyed them (except the really spicy ones). They gave us forks but generally they are not being used. We have learned only to use our one hand to take a piece from the Chapati and put the food in it. On the menü there were cocktails with out alchol and they were being mocktails. Cocktails and mocktails..

Bombe-Pune Highwe

Havaalanını terk ettiğimiz anda yüzümüze vuran o ilk sıcak şok etkisi, bizi Hindistan’la tanıştırdı. Indi Design’dan bizi almak için havaalanında bekleyen şoför Shalesh’i, elindeki tabela ile tanıdık, ancak Görkem fotoğrafını çekemeden indirdi tabelayı. Onu bulup foto lazım, ilk defa havaalanında karşılandım, hep çok kıskanırdım. Mumbai’yi pek bilmeyen Salish, bizi Ghettolardan otobana çıkartana kadar ufak bir şehir turu yaptırdı. Otoban yolunu nihayet bulduğumuzda filmlerde gördüğümüz (ve görmediğimiz) Hindistan’ı gördük. Herkesin bahsettiği yol kenarlarında kakalarını yapan adamları da bu sayede görmüş olduk. Garip olan, hiç birimiz bunun mide bulandırıcı olduğunu düşünmedik. Sadece biraz garipti. Trafiğin korkunç bir şekilde ilerlemesi dikkatimizi çekerken, asfaltın kalitesi takdir edilesiydi. Türkiye’de olsa kat kat yama yapılmış olan yollar, burada dümdüzdü. Trafiğin tersten olması da hepimizde bir korku unsuru.

Saat 09.00 civarı Pune’ye vardığımızda ilk olarak ofise gidip, herkesle tanıştık. Sudhir Sharma ve Indi ailesi tarafından çok sıcak bir şekilde karşılanmak, uzun bir yol üzerine çok iyi geldi. Ancak gözümüzden uyku aktığı belli olacak ki, Sudhir bize eve gidip dinlenmemizi ve öğleden sonra ofise gelmemizi söyledi. Ev, ofise 3-4 dakika yürüme mesafesinde, dört katlı bir apartmanın birinci katında, iki oda bir salon bir yer. Evin dışında hemen girmeden önce de bir maymun gördük. Lahmacun kıvamında bir şey yiyordu. Mahallemizde maymun var resmen. Hindistan’a hoşgeldik.

The first real schock wave of face melting air hitted on our faces when we have left the airport. There we have seen Shalesh, the driver who came to pick us from the airport. He was waiting with a sign that wrote Indi Design on it. We couldn’t took a Picture because he quickly removed it. I still wanna take the Picture though. It was the first time i was greeted in the airport with a sign. I was always jelous of it. We got in the car and started driving thought the Mumbai roads. Salish didn’t knew how to go to the highway so we had a small city tour thanks to him. We have went thought (or near) some Ghettos and when we finally found the highway road we have seen the India from the movies. We have even saw a couple of guys pooping near the Street, which a lot of people has warned us about. What’s weird is, none of us thought it was discusting, it was just a litle weird. The trafic was seriously mind melting because of the direction of it but the asphalt was really good. Made us think what would happened if these roads would be in Turkey. There would probably be a lot of patchs to the roads.

Around 09.00 we have arrived in Pune and we directly went to the Office and met with everybody. It was really good to have been welcomed such warmly welcome by Sudhir Sharma and the Indi family. We couln’t spent much time there because we were frustrated after our long journey so we went home. Our home is in walking distance of the Office and it has 2 rooms with 2 beds in each. We have seen a monkey before entering the house. Yes we had a monkey in our neigborhood. Welcome to India.

Horn OK Please

23 Haziran saat 17.00’da havaalanında buluşup, yurtdışı çıkış harç pullarını aldık. Bir önceki geceden İnternet’ten Check-in yaptırdığımdan bavulları Online Check-in’den verdik. Ailelerin de dahil olduğu toplu fotoğraf çekimimiz için Görkem, bir Japon turist kadından, fotoğraf makinesini verip, fotoğraf çekmesini istedi; ancak Görkem’in atik tavırları turisti başta epey korkuttu. Kendisinden para isteyeceğimizi sanmış olabilir. Pasaport kuyruğu önünde ailelerle iki buçuk (sayıyla 2.5) ay boyunca görüşmemek üzere son vedalarımızı ettik. Uçak yolunda Duty Free’den Rakı aldık. Sadece Yeni Rakı ve Tekirdağ Rakı olduğundan, en azından bizimle biraz alakası olabilecek, Gamze Güven’in tasarladığı şişe olan Tekirdağ’ın Altın Seri’den bir Rakı aldık. Evet, Rakı Türklerin olmazsa olmazı. Lokumlar, Antep fıstıkları ve Türk kahvesi zaten çantada duruyordu.

Uçakta oturduğumuz alan, halk dilinde ‘ağlayan çocuk bölümü’ olarak adlandırılan uçağın en arkasında yerlerimizi aldık. 8-9 çocuğun olduğu bölümde, sağ olsunlar, hiç ağlamadılar. Host bey(abi) yanımıza yemeklerle geldiğinde o kadar umutsuzdu ki, servis ettikleri yemekleri yemeyen yolcular yüzünden, bizden tavuk şiş yememizi istedi. 16 farklı çeşit vejetaryen yemek dağıtan adamı biz de biraz yorup menülerdeki tatlıları değiştirdik. Revani yerine, Mangolu Pannacotta yedik. Tavuk şiş üstüne mis mis.

Uçak indiğinde havaalanı bizi kısmi bir sıcakla karşılaştırdı. Kısmı diyorum çünkü havaalanından çıktığımız zaman karşılaşacağımız havaya, hepimizin tercih edeceği bir sıcaklıktı. Pasaport sırasında Görkem ve ben aynı sıraya girdik, Açelya da bir yanımızdakinde beklemeye başladı. Bizi kolaylıkla geçiren pasaport görevlisi, Açelya’yı bekletti ve formuna bizden istenmeyen bilgiler doldurttu. En son gidip duruma baktığımda Açelya’dan bir adres istiyordu. Adama gidip bizim stajyer olduğumuzu ve kapıda şu an Indi Design adına bir araba olduğunu ve bizi Hindistan’daki evimize götüreceğini, ancak bu evin adresini bilmediğimizi anlatmak durumunda kaldım. Sanırım pasaport görevlisi pek de mutlu olmadan damgayı bastı. Pozitif ayrımcılık ile de hemen arkasından, bavullarımızı toplayıp gittiğimiz termal kamera bölümünde karşılaştık. Kendi vatandaşlarının bavullarını termal bir kameradan, asık bir surat ile geçiren görevli; bizi görünce yüzü gülerek geçmemiz gerekmediğini göstererek bizi de mutlu etti.

At 23 june, around 17.00 we have met in the airport. I have made the Check-in online the night before so we gave our luggage from Online Check-in Booth. In order to have a photo with the families Görkem has given the camera to a Japanese tourist but Görkem’s quick and agile behaviour made her anxious and i guess she thought we were going to ask for Money or maybe attack her even. But we’re nice people we don’t attack people at the airport. We have said last goodbyes in front of the passport check. The Turkish Delight, pistachios and Turkish coffee was already in the bag so the only thing missing was Rakı and we bought it on the way to our plane, to make our colegees try it. Rakı is a must in Turkish culture for us. There were only Yeni Rakı and Tekirdağ Rakı so we have choosen the Golden Serie of Tekirdağ, thinking that it might relate to our profession. It’s bottle has been designed by Turkish Industrial Designer Gamze Güven, so why not?

The place we sitted on the plane was the place that has been called ‘the crying kids section’. There were 8-9 kids but suprisingly (and of course, thankfully) none of them cried. When the host came near us with the food troley, he was so desperate that he wanted us to eat the Chichken Shish because of the other passengers who didn’t wanted to eat what they have ordered before. We made the poor host even a little bit more tired with changing the deserts in the chicken shish menu, from Revani, to Pannacotta with Mango.

When we have landed, the warm air has welcomed us. In the line of the passport control, me and Görkem was in the same line and Açelya was in the one near us. We have have passed easily but the passport control guy made Açelya wait for 5 minutes and started asking weird questions. After a while i got bored and asked the guy what is the problem and he wanted and adress. So i had to explain the guy that we are interns for Indi Design, as seen on our passports, and we don’t know the adress yet. He has stamped the passport unwillingly, but who cares, he has stamped it. Then we went to the thermal camera section but the Policeman who had a very unwelcoming face, suddenly changed when he saw us and letted us pass the thermal camera section without being checked. We have met the first priviladge of being foreigners right that second.

Bu blog, Pune, Hindistan'da staj yapmaya giden, 3 endüstri ürünleri tasarımı öğrencisi tarafından kurulmuştur. Hiçbirimiz daha önce Hindistan'a, ya da yakınında bir ülkede bulunmadık. Kültürü ve yaşam biçimleri bizim açımızdan epey gizemli. 10 hafta sürecek olan seyahatimiz 24 Haziranda başlayacak.

Hindistan'ı seçmemizin önemli bir sebebi, mümkün olduğu kadar, içimizdeki, dünyaya karşı olan merağı beslemek. Oraya sadece Hindistan'daki tasarım tredlerini öğrenmeye değil, aynı zamanda kültürünü ve insanını öğrenmeye gidiyoruz.

14 gün sonra uçuşumuz ve heyecan dorukta.

This Blog has been formed by 3 industrial product design students from Turkey, who will be doing their internship in Pune, India. None of us has been in India, or anywhere near it before. The culture and the way of living is a complete mistery for us. We will be staying for 10 weeks, starting from 24th of June.

The reason we have choosed to do such a thing is the desire to feed the hunger of curiosity to the world we are living in, as much as possible. We are not only going there to learn about the design trends in India, but also learn about it's culture and people.

14 days later our journey will begin and we couldn't be more excited.
